Happy Memorial Day weekend to everyone.

Any plans ?

As for me, I will be seeing patients Saturday, volunteering Sunday at a free clinic, and trying to write a paper Monday...

Keep safe whatever you do.

I'll be strapping on my tool belt and using my new impact driver (gotta use the right tool for the job) continuing to help my sister build that Wonky Playhouse (knock on wood, pun intended, sorta) for her Wabbits.

Safe travels everyone!

Picked up some white oak yesterday - going to build 2 chaise lounges and a table for the patio. Also going to my niece's 2 year old son's birthday party.

Spreading mulch, pulling weeds (where do they keep coming from?!?!?) painting the kitchen (time to get rid of the green!), hopefully catching up on some sleep and spending some quality time with my family... not necessarily in that order.

Watching two sons play in a soccer tournament and getting sunburn in the process. I'm also manager of one of the teams so have to take care of paperwork, injuries, and step in as coach occasionally.

(Sail) racing and a friend's daughters wedding so far. And we'll eat dinner out Sat thru Mon as usual (we cook/eat dinner at home weekdays only).

I hear there are some cars racing in Indianapolis this weekend too...

Take a walk to our parish cemetery (three blocks away from our home, where we put new flags two weeks ago on the graves who have "gone before") to say hi to my brothers/sisters, and attend a service in their name.

Not to be a downer at all; enjoy the holiday - but try to remember what it represents.

I'll do the same thing I do on Veteran's Day--have a relaxing day sewing while watching my favorite war movies.

Not much for me. DW will be on a business trip most of the weekend. So it will be me and the cats rattling around in a big, empty house.

As Ms G says, everyday is a holiday. We wore ourselves out yesterday with Portal Hiking group. We went on a 3 hour drive to Aravaipa Canyon, as the crow flies it is close to home, but those darn mountains get in the way. Aravaipa named from the Pinal Apache Indians meaning "little wells". AC is an 11 mile slot canyon with 12 months of running water. We spent as much time in water as on dry land. It was a beautiful day 85 degree temps, and not a cloud in the sky. Most of the hike is in the shade so even in summer it is a pleasant hike. Fellow hikers include a biologist who worked at AC in the 80's, a Border Patrol agent, a Herpetologist, the owner of a guide company and 8 mostly birders, more. Our hike was limited, because the BLM only allows 20 hikers in daily. The evening was topped off by a great dinner at a great mexican restaurant.

I will be attending and photographing commemorative ceremonies at the VFW and several Legion posts, plus videotaping Mr B giving a public speech following a parade.
I will also help with table bussing and cleanup at the free luncheons put on for veterans at the posts.
Every veteran gets a hug if they want one (yes I ask first).
The older gentlemen light up like a Christmas tree when I do this. :D

I will be staying home to avoid the crowds.

I will be running in my first 10K race on Monday morning. I took up running last summer and have been having a lot of fun running 5K's; my running friend and I decided to bump up the mileage and have been training for the longer distance for a couple of months.

I will go visit my dad. We will take flowers to put on the family graves at the local cemetery which is our tradition. Probably take a couple rides out in the woods and see what is blooming. Weather is expected to be half way decent after lots of rain this week. Should be a good weekend!

Going with some friends to see Dwight Yoakam play tonight out in the desert at one of the Indian casinos. Guess we're gonna get our twang on with a little "guitars, cadillacs and hillbilly music."

Going camping and boating... but I think it is already to HOT for that... but wife insists I go (I am the only one who can get the boat in the water)...

Wife and son will do a little fishing...

Teaching a friend to surf!
I gotta try that before I go poof, but I've never lived near real surf and probably never will...

You're one plane ticket (and a rental car) away from my favorite surf break.

This lesson is special because the woman I'm teaching has persevered through major life adversity and is turning it around into good things. This is actually her second surfing lesson with me and she's "this close" to standing up. I think her biggest regret will be not having a beach photographer to record the event...
