Poll for the Guys
Poll inspired by the House Woes thread.
P.S. Not being sexist here, guys cry too, I'm just wondering if others are seeing the same changes that I see.

Re: Poll for the Guys
According to the following article I just googled up (which may be BS) women cry 4 times more often than men cry, averaging 5.3 cries a month.
http://www.boston.com/globe/search/s...nse/102196.htm
If this is accurate, I am not and have never been much of a crier. Certainly, Bill Clinton cries more than I do. *

Re: Poll for the Guys
I don't know many many who cry 1 to 2 times per month. And I certainly don't cry 5 times a month.

Re: Poll for the Guys
She's crying less, but maybe that reflects more upon my improved performance than on any change in standards...

Re: Poll for the Guys
I was gonna post something about "what kind of a sissy pants guy cries 1.3 times per month?". But I thought it would be insensitive and might make some cry 2.3 times per month this month.
Then I got to thinking about it. Probably 80-90% of the guys cry 0.0000000001 times per month. Then the other 10-20% do all the crying (depression, like watching sad chick flick movies, etc) to pull the average cry rate up to 1.3/month for guys.

Re: Poll for the Guys
More googling FWIW. Another article says men in the U.S. are 7 times less likely to cry than women and it is probably cultural, given that both young boys and girls cry about the same amount.
http://news-service.stanford.edu/new...study-522.html
Oh, and depressed people don't cry more than people who aren't depressed. Maybe even less as their emotions become blunted.

Re: Poll for the Guys
Well I cry occasionally, it's happened more often since my daughter was born, some shed in joy, some in pain. But I think there is a difference between a tear in your eye and loud sobbing and weeping. Even I would be uncomfortable around a guy doing that.

Re: Poll for the Guys
speaking as the token sissy, i guess gay guy opinions don't count on this pole poll. but since when did that ever stop me?
when i was partnered, i don't recall either of us crying. mostly we just laughed a whole lot. we probably made some other people cry, but we were young and a little thoughtless & just having a some fun at their expense. hey, that's what happens when you leave yourself open for ridicule.
when i lost my bud, i cried pretty much non-stop for a long long time. i don't know of a poll that could measure that pain. but i'm feeling much better now. thank you for asking.
the only real woman in my life, mom, never cried. i once asked her about that. she told me she thought if she ever started to cry that she'd never be able to stop. she was an amazingly strong woman, very much in control of her emotions and of her attitude. she knew she could decide how to perceive life as it is lived. & she decided to live it happily and lovingly with laughter, not tears.
i laugh probably more than i'm supposed to. my little niece/nephews think they are more mature than me & i've no doubt they are right on that. but even now life throws some pain my way. i went to visit mom on monday, then went out with some friends, then came home and cried until 5 o'clock in the morning. today i peeled off the scab that crying left just under the left side of my left eye.
so i'm back to laughing and life goes on.
now where did i put my lithium?

Re: Poll for the Guys
lg4nb (and other guys in general),
Nothing wrong with crying when a loved one dies or is seriously ill. I think even the most masculine of men wouldn't have their "man" badges taken away for shedding a tear at those times.
I don't mean any offense here, but you are probably a part of the small minority of guys that push the "average cry rate" up to 1.3 per month. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Re: Poll for the Guys
First wife...hardly ever cried.
Second wife..only saw her cry twice in 10 years...both were at the exanimation of our dogs.
Third wife is a crier. *She will average 3-5X a week. *Tears more than verbal sobbing. *She is just a very emotional woman so I would expect that as part of the package.

Guys, if you cry more than twice a year, you lose your macho rating.* Man Law!*

Whew! I was getting a little worried. I think I can actually remember the last 3 times I cried:
Juneish 2000, when my future wife and I broke up.
Sept. 11 2001
Oct 2002, when I about to get married and was under a lot of stress from both my parents and in-laws
Oh, and then there was that time when I watched "Maid in Manhattan"

Re: Poll for the Guys
Hmm, come to think of it, a lot of my crying accompanied massive quantities of beer and choruses of "I love you, man!"
