Our score was 45, and that sounds about right. I could walk to a grocery store, about 10 restaurants/fast food joints, a couple of banks.

DW and I take a walk most days, but never "to" anyplace for a specific purpose. The car is just too convenient: No parking shortage or charges here, almost never any traffic, and really very little in fuel cost in the grand scheme of things.

I grew up living in the heart of Toronto, with a score of 97. Loved it.

Where we used to live was 57, now we are at 75. At our old place in 4 years I think we walked to get food or services maybe 3 or 4 times, so an average of once a year lol.

In the new place we walk on average to get food or services once a week.

EDIT: Tried the place we lived 2 moves ago. Walker score of 95. There we probably walked somewhere almost every day.

Since when is GNC a grocery store?

My neighborhood scored in the 30's which is interesting since within about a half mile there are:

Kroger Signature grocery store
Drug store
Video store
Many sit-down restaurants
Banks
Dentists
Doctors
Vet
2 Starbucks
Gas stations
Fast food restaurants
Auto repair shops
Several schools
Parks
Public swimming pool
A GNC store

However, there are only homes, schools, parks within 0.4 miles.

I did my old house - 32, and my new apartment - 97!!! A big part of the reason I moved into this neighborhood is that I wanted to be less car-dependent. I love it!

As I posted in another thread, our Walkscore is not only low, it's actually 0. I double checked today to make sure I entered it right the first time. The closest service of any kind is 2.26 miles. We might as well live on Mars...

We're 55. Anything less than a 90 and you need a car, so a 70 is as good as a 0. We like having lots of choices in a 10 mile radius or so.

We're another "0" although most of the services are located within one to two miles of our farm. It may take into account the fact that we don't have any sidewalks close to our home.

63 for my current place, but it doesn't take into account that we're on top of a hill, so that 1/2 mile walk is all uphill on the way back, so I think it's lower.
The house we made an offer on, but didn't get is a 71, but is way more walkable.

68 in the Lakewood area of East Dallas. It's not really urban but is part "streetcar suburb" from the early 20th century - so a bit more dense than a typical 'burb. Some apartments and duplexes up to mansions on acreage. Between Downtown Dallas and White Rock Lake with good schools, the middle and high school offer IB.
