I for one admire the Pope for facing his own limitations and seeing the need to move on. He is doing what many of us would like to do but can't. Leave the pressure of the full time job as Pope and take on a less stressful part-time job ( I believe he said he would spend his time in prayer and study.)

Interesting that the Vatican is the only country I know of that allows its next "Leader for Life" to be chosen by a bunch of outsiders. Or are all those Cardinals considered citizens of the Vatican State?

We have lots of them here. They are not as colorful as the males, but have the same distinctive crest on the top of their head.

Pure coincidence or a sign? That strike happened just hours after the pope said he is stepping down.

Jesus' General: The Verrotte Schwanzlutscherin Are Lying About Me

"I resigned for the reasons I stated. I'm sick and I'm tired. I'm sick and tired of the Swiss Guard's failure to follow my orders to occupy the Sudetenland and invade Poland. I'm tired of that bitchy queen, Cardinal Lajolo's, snarky remarks about the cut of my Falda and maniple--as if that silly arschgeige knows the difference between Prada and prosciutto. And most of all, I'm tired of all those Hollywood prostituierten upstaging me as they model their dresses on the award show red carpets. The Grammys were the last straw. I'm done."

So the Papacy is not a death sentence after all. He has making a brave decision that he must have thought/prayed about for a long time. No doubt it's a burden off of the Holy Father's' shoulders.

Poor guy, he's being criticized for retiring early at age 85!

We are all about retirement, so even the Pope qualifies, but let's remember to keep it friendly - and positive.

As more people work later, because they are living longer and still need the money, maybe in the future 85 will be the new ER? ;-)

Thank you. As a Christian, I found some of those posts offensive

Yep, pretty amazing "coincidence" - direct hit to St. Peters basilica.

Probably not that uncommon, though, since it's the highest point in the Vatican, but I could not find out how common it is.

I want to know if he gets to keep those spiffy red shoes to wear around the house. They look very comfortable!

Also born/raised Catholic. I drifted, but I always try to respect those who kept to their faith. Most of them have a sense of humor.

I'm a convert Catholic, and I found this thread funny. I like to think God has a sense of humor, therefore I should too.
