Posting Your Finances

What are the possible dangers of posting your financial details (e.g. I have $X in Vanguard TSM, $Y in ...) on a public forum?

Re: Posting Your Finances

It is often fairly easy to figure out the "real life" name of an "anonymous" poster, so the risk is basically the same risk as wearing a t-shirt that says "I am a millionaire, and here is my address and phone number. And I have an account with this much money at XYZco."

Yeah, I avoid stating dollar amounts and leave it at percentages, although being able to figure out someones identity, where they have their money, and a lot of other personal details could make identity theft a little easier.

For example Al, you posted a link of a picture from your ISP's storage, and your full name was in the URL. We know where you live. We'll be at your house this evening to eat all your food, drink your beer and mess up your living room.

Exactly. But at least on this forum, most of our T-shirts say "I am a millionaire, but since I live below my means, I don't have much crap worth stealing."

Re: Posting Your Finances

It seems like most of the people wanting to steal your money on the net are financial advisors. Seeing the reception they get here, I imagine they move on to easier pickins.
