Predictions for 2011

Lets hear some good predictions and thoughts for 2011.

Mine is that CFB will be back once Nords and Rew run down his post count.

I don't think he's good at being 2nd at anything.

I predict that the US economy will grow and that US unemployment will fall to 8%.

Oh, I really like your prediction!! I'll be hoping for that one to come true.

I predict that those ER Forum members who are retired will enjoy another glorious year of retirement, and will wish they had pulled the trigger earlier.

I also predict that those who are not retired will be one year closer, will be trying with mixed luck to figure out how to retire earlier than planned, and in any case will be seeing an ever-growing light at the end of the tunnel.

Ben & Jerry get divorced

In January AOL issues a software that gets broadband speed via dialup - AOL stock to $1,000.

China uses its surplus to buy up all the homes available to house its growing population, solving the housing crisis and unemployment problem in the USA. Chinese say there was never a General Tso or his chicken.

A cure for male pattern baldness is found. Trekkies wonder why people in the 25th century never used it?

Hillary Clinton convinces all Israelis covert to Islam ending the the Mid East tensions and ushering in a new era of peace.

In some parts of the world the year will begin cold, get warm and then cold again. While in other parts of the world the year will begin warm, get cold and then warm again.

The DOW will go up and down and then repeat over and over, closing just below 14K next year at this time, or so my crystal ball says.

Economy will recover more strongly than expected, but unemployment will remain stubbornly high.

Housing will be recovering in most places, but hard hit Vegas, AZ, and FL will still be in the doldrums.

I'm on the same page but no specific numbers --- I expect it will be a slightly positive year for the US economy.

I predict that DW will finally retire, after announcing the event in 2007 (when I did), 2008, 2009, and 2010 ...

The question is, what will I do all day (with her around )...

People will make lots of predictions. By sheer randomness, some will actually turn out correct. Said lucky predictors will ascribe it to their own wisdom and foresight.

Something big and unexpected will happen.

Breathless news anchors will report on the forest fires in the midwest (that happen every year).

Breathless news anchors will report on the bitter cold front hitting large city X (that happens every year).

Some Hollywood people will (a) kill some ordinary person in a DUI, (b) have twins, (c) get married, (d) get divorced, (e) die, (f) get arrested, or (g) some or all of the above.

I will remain single, get close to but not quite reach giving 20 gallons to the Red Cross, and have 8 years expenses in the FIRE stash.

After my brilliant (i.e. incredibly lucky) prediction of Paula Abdul leaving American Idol.
1. I predict that AI viewership will drop dramatically and the show will disappear after 2012. I also predict that I'll start watching it and lose interest..
2. A former Disney teen star will get caught doing drugs and will release a sex tape.
3. A medium to large city (>250K) will default on its municipal debt. The bankruptcy plan will call for existing retirees pensions to get cut. (Although this probably won't be settled until 2012)
4. California, and Illinois financial crisis will worsen and their debt ratings will be cut by 2+ levels.
5. Somebody will beat UConn woman's basketball team.
6. The Yankee's won't be back in the World Series.
7. The Laker will return to the NBA finals
8. Dow closes at 13,100
9. Unemployment falls to 9% but remains north of 8%
10. Winter will be much nicer in Hawaii than in the rest of the US

Both of these will be blamed on Global Warming.

Anti-Global Warming forces will claim the opposite.

If you add up all the places that CFB's posted over the years, even REWahoo and I together couldn't come close to his post count.

Besides, REWahoo and I keep a laser-keen focus on quality...

It'd be interesting to see a vBulletin utility that plots post count vs time. I have no idea what my current rate is.

Wow! Same day my DH retires - after over 33 years on the job.

More predictions:

1. Piers Morgan will be a flop as Larry King's replacement.

2. Interest rates will rise modestly.

3. A prominent member of Congress will be involved in a sex/money scandal.

4. The stock market will continue to gain strength, due in large part to increased consumer spending.

5. Oil prices will rise and gold prices will fall.

6. Punxsutawney Phil will predict 6 more weeks of winter.

I believe that when 2011 is over, Charles Dickens will have most accurately described the outcome:

Quote:
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way—in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.
