Progressive health care and actuaries

Our company has a tiered benefit structure for 2009. Those that make over $100k will pay slightly more per month in health care. Those that make under $50 will pay slightly less. They didn't break down the percentage of the company by tier, but they did state that over 80% would see no change or a positive change.

I'm kind of digging it. I think.

And, in unrelated news, my group is being moved in with the actuarial group. I hear those guys and gals party all day long so things are going to be fun!

Maybe I'll finally figure out why my company has a liquor license.

Do you think it'd be over the top if I wore a t-shirt that said "I'm happy to subsidize your health care"?

I'd get everyone a coffee cup. Maybe with some healthy advice on the reverse side.

Perfect... like those cups with the poker cards.

I think the most obvious one will be "you should drink less coffee"

Over in the actuarial group, I wonder how they're taking the news.

I'm not sure I'd want to work with a bunch of people who are capable of forecasting exactly how long your demographic has a 50% chance of surviving. I'd be afraid to bring in doughnuts for the morning meeting...

Oh man, I was celebrating too soon. We re-reorged. The actuarial group is going to our old director and we're going to their director.

And after laying off a bunch of plebes, we're hiring a bunch of managers and directors. I haven't tallied yet, but I think our part of the org is going to be near a 2:1 ratio of worker bee to overlord.

Either bacon maple bars or those cinnabons with the bacon rolled up in them...
