Re: Protesting against Freedom - Rally against Gay marriage.............

My attitude on the whole thing is that whatever two (or more) consenting adults do is their own business. As long as nobody ends up dead or permanently hurt (some people get into pain), and as long as it doesn't involve minors (not old enough to make a decision for themselves) or animals (CAN'T make a decision for themselves) then who gives a rat's ass?

I have a coworker who's one of those holier-than-thou types and is always carrying on about how Christians are persecuted. Well, the reason that she gets "persecuted" is because she feels that she can say ANYTHING that's on her mind and nobody can disagree with it. If they do, they're persecuting her! And then she goes on to say how this country was founded on Christianity. She gets really pissed when I tell her no, it was founded on "Freedom of Religion", which also means "Freedom FROM Religion!"

I got her real good the other day when she was carrying on about how the Patriot Act was a good thing, and that if people are losing their rights for the good of the country, that's okay. I told her there's an old saying along the lines of people who give up freedom for protection deserve neither.

She just looked at me like I was an idiot and asked, perplexed "Who said that?"

"Oh, I don't know", I replied. "I think it was Thomas Jefferson!"

If there truly is a God in Heaven, then a gay couple will move in upstairs from her, two of the butchest lesbians on earth will move in next door, and a few transexuals will move in across the street!

Ok I hate to jump into anything political but has anyone heard of the conspiracy theories as to why the govt wants to prevent same sex marriages?

It has something to do with how the big corporations and govt will collect more money - no married couple benefits - if they can prevent same sex marriages.

Don't a lot of companies already offer partner benefits, such as health insurance coverage, for GLBT employees?

Re: Protesting against Freedom - Rally against Gay marriage.............

I know better than to do this, especially with this crowd, but for the sake of balance, isn't it the right of those protesting to say what they think too? Free speech is not free speech if it is limited to what is currently politically correct. Perhaps, just perhaps, the protesters feel that homosexuality is wrong and that gay marriage is wrong. Isn't it their right to advocate that position just as strongly as some of you have advocated your position here? Just a thought.

I agree 100% that they should be able to protest for whatever they believe in.

But it still makes my blood boil.

I can live with that. And you have every right to have your blood boil, although I recommend having a glass of wine instead, but then, that's my solution for almost everything.

I'm protesting freedom itself right now. I'm against freedom. Gay marriage? Doesn't concern me. But all this freedom going around is crazy!!!

That's the beauty of freedom. Even when you're against it, you're for it.

Stop playing your uber-liberal mind games with me. I'm dead set against freedom. I hate it I hate it I hate it. Nothing makes me feel more alive than fighting freedom. I'm a freedom fighter.

Re: Protesting against Freedom - Rally against Gay marriage.............

dunno about gay horses, but I have a dog that, if he's laying on his back, and you chant "gay-dog! gay-dog!" to him, he does that stereotypical wrist thing with his front paws.

I have no idea where the dog learned that, who taught it to him, or how me and my buddies figured out how to get him to do that, but it's kinda cute. I dunno if that would be a good trick to show off at a dog show, though! :P

Why do you stereotype gay dogs like that? It is so un-PC!

In WA, it has recently become the business of law enforcement. Some guy married a horse, and died in the consummation ceremony.

Our press, and legislators were appalled, and now we have some new laws. Kind of amazed me that these laws didn't already exist.
