Thanks. That's how I look at it. For $50 it's given me $1500 worth of fun. And for $50 if it's gone, its' gone!

If I had lost one of those $1,000 jobbies, I'd be on my fourth martini by now!

Clearly, you have never experienced seeing your twin-engine R/C model airplane with retractable landing gear that you spent eight months building lose control and head straight in. I didn't even bother to collect the on-board electronics because after an impact like that they'd be unsafe to use again. Sending them to the factory for inspection was almost as much as new gear so I bought new gear.

Oh, and I had ~$500 in it that was not recoverable. All that was, was the engines and tires.

But I've witnessed much worse. Helicopter pilots have been known to cry.

I just put down cash for a 2016 delivery of one of these...a waterproof quad copter that flies itself and takes movies and pictures of whoever holds the homing beacon.

Not bad for a $50 toy. It was my first flight (more or less) over water.

If I lost control, I'd have lost the copter!

A rank amateur compared to some of you guys, but ... good for me.
I see you have that "jello" problem too. I have a Parrot AR 2.0 and a Mobius camera that I can wire underneath it (even though it has a 720p on board) but I get that jello from the image stabilization in the camera. I am pretty sure that the only option is an active 3 axis gimbal mount, but haven't really looked into them seriously yet.

They are loads of fun though, we live in a pretty, wooded area and I love to get it way above tree line and get panoramic shots.

Parrot has some nice new products in that price range with onboard HD cameras. And you can pick up used 1 and 2 generation old ones for cheap if you just want something to practice with...

Sweet. I can't believe DJI didn't do this. This is the next step I think. Still waiting to pull the trigger on a Phantom 3. All great fun!

Is there a site about these. Like explaining options, motor sizes and some how to's?

Usually when I see I'm getting into trouble (near trees) I'll just cut the power and let it drop near to the ground. This time, I cut the throttle and nothing happened...it just kept running out toward the trees and is now sitting 50 feet above ground in a nice maple tree. Of late, it did seem to not respond as well as when new.

I do have my phone number on it, so....hoping a wind will knock it down at some point.
UPDATE! We had a really windy night last night and I went back to the scene of the crime this morning hoping it might have shaken loose from it's 50 foot perch.

There was my copter sitting about 5 feet off the ground in a bush!

So....back to the skies!!!

Thanks to this thread I ordered a M68 Holy Stone from Amazon, actually bought two since they are so cheap, good thing because I crashed the first one into my fireplace and broke a servo motor. This thing is a blast to fly and at this price is great for a beginner like me. The videos I have taken are awesome (all for $60).

Well, this was going to happen sooner or later. Just wish it wasn't in my backyard!

Some knucklehead flew his quad over a parade and crashed into spectators. Now (this being Massachusetts) the legislature is looking into licensing and, one would expect, the standard registration fees soon to follow. Commercial pilots first, then......

Here's the story:
