Question About Reloading AMZN Gift Card

Sometimes when I am buying something at AMZN, at checkout there is an offer to lower the price of the purchase by $10 if I reload my AMZN gift card by $100.

Some questions:
1) Can I pay for this $100 reload by credit card? Is this considered a purchase that will earn 5% rewards on the Chase AMZN Prime credit card like a normal purchase? Not a cash advance that I will pay a fee on instead?

2) I assume that I have to use this gift card to purchase things.....can't use it to pay balance due?

3) I can use this gift card for "normal" purchases from AMZN? There seemed to be some restrictions but I always get confused about the types of sellers and there were lots of terms & conditions to confuse this old brain.

4) This gift card stays in the AMZN account so I just call it up when I make a purchase?

I guess, in short, is this a good or OK deal if you will use up the $100 in a reasonable time period?

Not 100% sure, but:

1. Yes. Yes. No. You'd probably have to use the same credit card for the additional $100 as you are for the item you're purchasing at the moment, but that's probably not a problem in your case.

2. Correct. It shows up as a payment method.

3. Correct. I've never tried to buy something on Amazon that I couldn't use my gift card balance for.

4. Correct. It shows up as a payment method.

Not worth $10 to me, but I'm a low volume Amazon customer. If you're buying stuff from there all the time, maybe.

I’d take that deal!

I have bought Amazon gift cards before when a discount is offered. It’s seamless. It shows up as another payment method and defaults to using the gift card balance at checkout.

Thanks, SC521 and audrey, for your helpful comments. Hopefully the deal is still there so I can see for myself how this all works in the real world.
