Question??.........."Will They Get To Heaven?"

This is aimed mostly at you religious folks.

Will the "kiddie diddler" Foley make it to the pearly gates?

How about the "hindgrinder" Haggard?

And let's not forget that all time "blubbering sinner" Swaggart?

You must have not seen that huge guy that was his partner (Mike Jones). He most certainly is/was the receipent, not the "hindgrinder". I'd bet good money Haggard plays the "female" role.

I believe these folks are usually referred to as "pitchers" and "catchers".
Let's keep our sports metaphors operative. BTW, this must be the dumbest topic I've seen since I signed on.

Well, since there is no heaven, no, and neither will any of us.

Actually, my understanding is much the opposite. There is a heaven. We are all going there.

And now Haggard admits "getting massages" from the man-whore and buying meth. Gotta love it.

Re: Question??.........."Will They Get To Heaven?"

Actually I think it was an interesting question. I'd be interested in hearing sincere answers.

I am not a believer in the Christian God or in heaven, but I have always felt that if I turn out to be wrong, He probably won't hold it against me, and I will be allowed to go anyway, since I've done my best to be a good person.

If it turns out there is a God and a heaven, but He is so petty as to send me to hell for not repenting and believing and all that, then it's probably not much of a heaven that I'd want to go to anyway.

As I understand some radical fundamentalist beliefs, He is so petty that He will banish you to hell if you do not acknowledge Jesus - even if you are raised in some remote jungle on an island in the Indonesian archipelago where you never learn about Christianity. But if you repent and accept Jesus all is forgiven, al la:

Ok, I have no "opinion" on the afterlife. Of course, being raised as a Roman Catholic (and schooled by those "penguins", I certainly should "know the truth").

Hopefully, there is a heaven. Hopefully, there is a "supreme being" (man/women, black/white/yellow/red - it doesn’t matter).

If there is, all I want is some peace, and to be with "my friends" - those dogs I rescued over the years, and hopefully waiting for me at the "rainbow bridge". For those that do not know what I'm talking about:

As "dumb" as it may seem, that would be "heaven" to me...

I agree, this makes no sense...why would the Supreme being of the universe care what an insignificant human thinks...Ego? Low self esteem?

Early retirement is my own little heaven, but threads like this introduce a little taste of the other place... let's not slur people based on their sexual orientation--not even hypocrits, eh folks?
=The Management Your friendly moderator Your ever-lovin' astro

What I did in heaven today:
-- Bought a little PID and DLS in my rollover IRAs
-- Cleaned the kitchen
-- Got Chinese takeout lunch and brought to my brother's office to share with him (shrimp w/lobster sauce)
-- Got my annual TB test read (required for hospital volunteers as well as employees)
-- Got my watch repaired
-- Took a walk around the 'hood
-- Made bratwurst, beans, and sauerkraut for dinner, and homemade applesauce for dessert
-- Spending a nice evening at home with the hubster...tonight we'll watch "Thank You for Smoking," a DVD my brother lent us, and Battlestar Gallatica

Re: Question??.........."Will They Get To Heaven?"

I am a non-believer. But I am interested in religious belief and respect people who lead good lives in accordance with strongly held beliefs.

On the other hand, I have long wondered how some Christians can believe that to be saved one must accept Jesus Christ (which appears to be a component of your faith). I have the same question for Muslims who believe that one must accept the "fact" that "there is one God and his prophet is Mohammad," or whatever the precise formulation is, to be "saved" in their world view.

As I queried in another post, what about a child born into any of a number of world cultures who is never introduced to the concept of Jesus Christ or of Mohammad? Is that child doomed? If so, why would a benevolent God treat his creations that way? I hope you don't answer that God will somehow make it possible for that child in the remote jungles of Borneo to know about Jesus. Why make a leap of faith if that is the sort of thing one must accept?

Re: Question??.........."Will They Get To Heaven?"

We have a lot of outliers here. Hmm, i wonder if there's some correlation between non-believers and FIRE.

The latest statistics i saw, show 80% of Americans identified themselves as "christain" and over 90% "believe in God".

For my thoughts on the matter, see my quote below.

Someone said if dogs don't go to heaven, then they don't want to go either.
Makes sense to me.

One of the reasons I always make a point of visiting the national shrine to St. Francis every time I pass through the beautiful city of San Francisco.

Re: Question??.........."Will They Get To Heaven?"

I'm in the nonbeliever camp. It would be nice to believe in a heaven, but that won't make it so. But, the good news is that we get about 70-90 years on this planet, and we live in the most amazing time that has ever been. This is really enough, if you use your time right, isn't it? Plenty of time to make this a better place, see a lot of smiles, and make memories for those who will stay after us.

(Caution: Pages below question the religious concept of heaven and the search for "meaning" beyond what we actually see every day)

Re: Question??.........."Will They Get To Heaven?"

I respect Christians who actually take the time to read the New Testament and think for themselves about what it teaches. What I would describe as "mainstream" Christian teachings are very positive and open to a personal understanding of "truth." I keep reading about increasing numbers of fundamentalist "Christians" who seem to be stuck in the old testament and leave no room for a personal understanding but seek to force feed a delivered version of truth that would damn that child in Borneo. Although, I have to admit, I give their thinking short shrift so it doesn't have much impact on whether I choose to believe in God or not.
