I bought one of these in Thailand a couple of months ago and love it. XP pro, Office, Photoshop and more software is on it. I put 2 Gig ram and a 2 Gig SD Card onboard and this little box flies. It has passed every test I have put it through I have not yet tried the drop test. J

Also I bought a 160 Gig, USB 2 Ĺ inch SATA external HD to compliment it. It gets people’s attention when I bring it out in public places and is a real babe magnet.

My only knock on the box is the screen resolution. Not the size or the clarity they are both fine, but due to the lower resolution it is difficult for me to build WebPages something few others would do. I understand they are coming out with a new model in June to resolve this issue but it’s going to be priced accordingly.

Billy,
That is amazing.
I have the 4g model with the XP.
Even the open source word and excel programs work great.

The only thing I want to do is download podcasts for my ipod.

Are there any stores that stock this little computer?

Dex,
I have the same unit as you. 4 gig with XP Pro and Webcam. I added the 2 gig ram and SD card.

All data is moved off to the external drive.

I have used the Webcam via Skype a few times and itís great. The box as you know is so light you can walk around with the web cam going and tour your house or where ever you are.

I can do everything I do on my Toshiba except what I mentioned above, and itís faster.

They are hot sellers.
I made a mistake before - I'm running the basic program - Linix base and it works fine.
I didn't add any additional memory yet.
I have 1gig free of the 4 gig that comes with it.
I might have to get additional memory for the podcasts I like to listen to while traveling.
I might want to get additional memory to store my photos while traveling.
Microcenter has a 8gig USB stick for about $30

Because of the amount of ram, I disabled the swap files which freed up 1 gig on the HD.

Thanks for the link there is a lot of good info there.

HP's UMPC 2133 revealed - Engadget

This was back in Feb. There has been some more on it recently. Looks like HP is looking at geting in the small laptop business. Will have to see if they try to compete on price.

I think thats based on this
Intel unveils new Classmate PCs - Yahoo! News

as the EEE was based on the original Classmate spec and reference design. Asus will have something similar, and the price points should be around $500-600 for the higher end stuff. Units based on the new Atom cpu will be around in the fourth quarter. About twice the horsepower in a smaller, cooler, lower power draw package.

I imagine this might submarine the prices on the existing Asus units since they just "Osborned" their 4 and 8GB line, which cost almost as much yet have a smaller screen and less power.

Some people never learn...
