Recycling Phone

I found phone recycling website today. I didn't know there are such sites. Does anyone has more information. Which one is better. How they works? I understand that if you send them your phone you get money, but what happens to the phone

I understand one way they try to get business is to post spam on internet discussion boards. It never works.

Police in our area accept phones, check to be sure they and their batteries work, and pass them out to domestic violence type cases. Even without service the 911 feature works.
