While driving in to town yesterday morning, I saw this River Circle down near the bridge that crosses the South Branch of the Potomac. Only had my phone for a camera and the sun was brutal but you can make out the frozen circle of ice- only thing I can think of is that there is a spring or current causing the water to slowly rise at that point and then the freezing weather took over? Or maybe it's a crop circle that missed the open field a few hundred yards away, lol?

It's about 100' across and still there as of last night but forecasting temps nearly 40 today so may lose it.

That would be my guess. Outlying water froze while the stream below kept moving, creating that hole. Reached the point where it got cold enough to freeze that part as well.
