I'm 55. Does this mean these calls will keep coming (and at an increasing rate) for the next 10 years?

We have been using NOMOROBO for several years, however the phone still rings once and is disconnected. This previously was not to bad, but the volume of calls recently has spiked beyond belief and even with one ring is getting annoying. I suspect a lot of these calls are political ads or polls due to the upcoming mid-terms.

I happened to look back at the calls we received (but which were blocked). One was from our own number.

I got a call today from a number not in my contacts so let it go to voicemail. Apparently, I have four outstanding warrants and if I don’t call back right away, the police will be coming to arrest me. What I don’t get is why 4? Why not 2,3 or 5? Is 4 a less incredulous number of warrants than any other amount? Has this been researched by professional scammers?

I think it's supposed to raise your stress level. And four police cars are a lot more embarrassing than just one.

If there were 4 warrants then why didn't they just ping your phone and go arrest you? Such a naughty person.

Ugh, here we go again...…..another call from health care hotline this morning. They keep changing their number, so nomorobo has been useless in blocking them. With open enrollment starting next month (as the beginning of the robocall reminds me), I don't expect this to slow down any time soon.

Ugh, 3 more robocalls. But the call spoofing has reached a new level. After nomorobo blocked the second call, another call came in from a different number and it wasn't blocked - this time, I answered the call, pressed "1" and threw the phone down on another chair and went back to doing what I was doing before (then I heard the usual beeps from the open phone). My caller-ID works through my TV; when it is on, the CID number appears on the screen for a few seconds. However, when I checked my call history in the service provider's website, the number which appeared was the same one as what had gotten blocked by Nomorobo 10 minutes earlier, not the one which had appeared on the TV. This means I can't report the new, unblocked number to nomorobo.

James Bond to the rescue with STIR/SHAKEN.
How to Stop Spam Robocalls With STIR/SHAKEN
Implementation in early 2019 by AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile with other carriers to follow. Will work similar to the system employed to eliminate most e-mail spam. There was an article in this morning's local paper.

My sympathies.
I got a lot of healthcare related spam phone calls the year I turned 65, I guess because they wanted me to buy their Medicare coordinated plans. The silver lining to that cloud is that now, at age 70, they don't call me any more.
What I get now are a lot of e-mail and regular mail ads for hearing aids, burial plots, and services like cremation. You'd think I was 100 years old instead of 70. My hearing is just fine, and I don't anticipate needing a burial plot or cremation any time in the near future.

We are now in a Chinese network. Someone just left a robocall in Chinese. Next it will be in Russian.

With spoofing, the best (only?) defense IMO by use of an allowed list where only certain numbers can get through. Otherwise, the callers just use a spoofed number.

Another first in spoofed numbers: On my cell phone yesterday, I got a call from another area code with a 555 exchange. You know, that's the exchange for all the never-used phone numbers like on TV shows when they have to specify a number.

Toll free area codes have valid 555 exchanges, so 800-555-#### can be a real number.

Interesting, although the number shown was not from a toll-free area code.
The only time I dialed an actual 555 number was for dialing directory information outside my area code: area code-555-1212.

I somehow ended up on their call list as my dad approached 65. They called non-stop asking for him. I still can't figure out how my number was in the system as his. In the end I'm glad they called me instead of him because he's a vulnerable adult and is probably gullible enough to fall for some of their sales pitch.

Call Bliss works for me on my cell phone. I average 8-10 robocalls a day, none ring through. I do have to disable it if I'm expecting a call from a number not on my Contacts list (like a delivery or service call). My landline (free with my AT&T package) Is disabled for incoming calls, I can call out with it.

I purchased the upgraded model of the Sentry Call Blocker:
https://www.amazon.com/SENTRY-Screen...8-1&ref=sr_1_1
But there was a dealbreaker problem: With our phone, the caller ID info isn't passed on to the phone. The blocker displays the caller ID, but the phone has the ability to announce the caller ("Call from Cute Fuzzy Bunny!").
So, I'm sending the new version back and continuing to use the older version.
