Ruh-roh-- Hurricanes Jova & Kenneth & Lidia & ...

No "cowabunga" next week.

Got a phone call from the Red Cross this morning:* "Good morning, would your spouse be willing to stand duty in the shelter on Tuesday & Wednesday, maybe longer?"

My spouse the military meteorologist doesn't get those middle-of-the-night phone calls from the hurricane warning center anymore.* I used to think that was a good thing but apparently we need to figure out a better early warning system so that we can beat Oahu's other 800,000 residents to the gas station.*

Hurricane Jova IR satellite image.

Track forecast.* JB, it looks like Hilo is up first.* So far.

Warnings & other info.

The local newspaper article, written by a neighbor.

Yikes. Volcanoes and hurricanes and no road to safety. Here's hoping it misses you.

Duct tape - always duct tape the freezer - in case of power failure.

Of course - in our case - this time it didn't work - heh, heh, heh.

Here's hoping for a clean miss.

Well, that'd keep our kid from opening the door to see if the power's back on!

Looks like Jova will die out by the Big Island, although it could bring lots of rain. (We need more rain in the water table.) We'll see what the rest of the crowd does next week. I can't remember a time when we were tracking this many simultaneous storms in one area...
