Ewwww, this brings back so many memories...the forced gaiety, the pretend camaraderie, the inevitable coworker who over-indulges and makes a complete fool of themselves....I don't miss it one bit!

Except when MegaCorp was raking in big profits, the holiday party shrimp sure were enormous! More like lobster tails! Now, THAT'S what I do miss.

one and only one thing i miss...i used to attend a lot of technical conferences all over the country, mostly just representing my agency. the pre-conference receptions were the best! those shrimp were downright serious, and the scallops wrapped in bacon? OMG. most were held right in the hotel where the conference was, so D&D was not an issue...unless of course you count driving the exterior glass elevator up and down for the cheap thrill. i'm afraid of heights, normally. wheeeeeeeee

I miss our wild and crazy OR parties from the early 80's when the wine flowed and we heated up the food in the autoclaves . No dressing up ,no spouses , no job talk ,just pure partying !

I knew things were going to hell in the MegaCorp when they completely did away with any holiday parties. Since I was in a money making/spending organization we would still usually get a good meal and a few drinks from a vendor or two, but it wasn't like the old days, making a fool of yourself (early in the career) or watching others do so (later in the career) and seeing coworkers and bosses in a totally different environment. I saw a lot of value in those parties, once I learned a little moderation.

the reason that article caught my eye is...next week, i will attend a holiday party organized by, but not located at, my former w*rkplace. i am going as a guest. party location is a local casino, no alcohol available unless you BYO.
i shall conduct myself in a ladylike manner.
i shall not smirk longer than 20 seconds.
i shall be dressed to the nines, as a woman, not an engineer trying to be taken seriously.
i shall smile and wave.
oh, this is gonna be soooooooooo good. <runs palms together>
