Self lacing sneakers

Okay, it's not on the same level as a self driving car, but these will be nice for a lot of people who have trouble bending over far enough to tie their shoes. I've just been reminded that I'm not immune from that because I'm sore from some surgery earlier this week.

Nike has unveiled its long-awaited sneaker with self-tying "adaptive" laces.

It's called the HyperAdapt 1.0, and Nike CEO Mark Parker introduced it at the Nike Innovation 2016 event in New York City this week.
How does a sneaker tie itself? Duh!
"When you step in, your heel will hit a sensor and the system will automatically tighten. Then there are two buttons on the side to tighten and loosen. You can adjust it until it's perfect."

They are like the "pump" sneakers sort of. It looks like you still have to bend over to get them on and then fiddle with two buttons to refine the fit. Not much of an advantage over regular sneakers?

Velcro is great! I am still able to lace my shoes easily, but if/when it becomes painful or more difficult, I'm ready for Velcro.
