When we are greeters at church, we are shaking approximately 100 hands. I always go the the restroom and wash my hands before going into church. During the church service, we get up and greet each other by shaking hands. I try my best not to touch my face afterwards and wash my hands as soon as I get home. I am glad to know that I am not the only paranoid person regarding this. There are 2 people at church that I always give hugs to when I see them. One person is a widower who is a gentle soul. The other is a lady who has a disabled spouse and told me once that it is the only time she is able to get out and have contact with other people. I was an usher at the time and she gave me a hug. A former minister told us in a small group that sometimes the only physical contact that some people, especially the elderly, have during the week is at church. If that is the case, it would be worth any cold that I would get from shaking their hands.

Bowing Japanese style would probably be a better custom for us to develop...

Just came from hospital - surgeon & another doc insisted on shaking hands prior to the deal. OR nurses refrained though, bless their hearts...what the heck I guess the docs are pretty smart and know what they are doing.
Once home I washed up like I had OCD.

I hate that. They do it at my church too. I love it when I can sneak past the greeter. Any tips on how to do that?

Not really, unless you see them talking to someone and move quickly past! I always feel like I am not doing a good job, if someone gets past me! In the future, I will wonder if they are trying to avoid me and my germs!!!
