Thanks for posting this. The Medal of Freedom would be a very fitting recognition of Jack Bogle's contributions.

The medal recognizes:
Quote:
"An especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors."
Here's a list of the 16 people most recently honored with the Medal of Freedom. IMO, Bogle definitely meets/exceeds the standard.

I agree he's deserving of the medal but I'm not at all optimistic the petition will get the needed 100,000 signatures by the March 13 deadline. The petition was initiated on Feb 11, has averaged only 100 signatures a day and is 99,000 short with only three weeks to go. It appears the number of us who know and understand what he's done is just too few to make this happen.

Hope I'm wrong.

You may be right. But the petition is just a mechanism for bringing the situation to the attention of people who matter--POTUS could award the medal with zero signatures--and he should, once Bogle's contributions are made known to him.
He's made tremendous contributions to the well-being and security of so many people, and allowed "common folks" to participate in the growth of the US and world economy. Recognizing this would fit well into other themes that the POTUS has been showcasing lately, if presented correctly.

Absolutely, I support it. Mr. Bogle has helped millions achieve economic freedom. He is one rich guy who got his money the old fashioned way - creating a product that helped better the lives of many others.
