Small increase in regular spending

The cat (~10 years) has decided to be mostly indoor, and now I have to buy stuff for the litter box.

Your cat enriches your life. Cat litter doesn't cost much. That's a worthwhile expense!

You may actually save money in the long run since it's healthier for a cat to be indoors---thus less vet bills, hopefully.

He showed up out of the woods about 9 years ago. Got him tamed enough to go to the vet for shots and neutering. Vet said he was then about 1 year old. 11 pounds, long hair double coat. Before this winter he would only use litter box if was a blizzard or below 0F (would just use some paper from shredder). He hasn't killed any squirrels for a while, still does chipmunks and mice.

Very territorial. Hasn't had to go to the vet for major injuries for a several years (throat ripped out, eyeball punctured).
