social security letters
Does anyone know if SS stopped mailing social security letters every year?
If yes, how can someone verify previous year income credit to SS?

The problem with the SS Retirement Benefit Estimate - it does not show previous years wages ?!

IIRC you can get the same info online at the ssa.gov website.

I will record this year's and last year's data on the last paper statement. One thing I have done is go back to earliest statement and put all the data in a spreadsheet for the two of us. It goes back to 1969. Ah, the memories of a 40-year cycle.

Has anyone relied on the estimator recently and then found the actual SS amount wildly different? Wondering how accurate it might be.

They stopped sending paper statements to everyone every year, but you can use the on-line calculator, and/or request a paper statement be mailed to you.

I found it accurate.
Why not use it, and also request a paper statement to see how closely it it matches.

I didn't know the SS administration stopped sending the annual notices until I read it here on the forum. However, late in December 2011, I received my annual statement but DW never got hers. I don't understand why I got one and she didn't. Am I missing something? It's not a big deal, but just wondering.

wanabe, I had a suggestion to offer, but unfortunately it is not a good one at the moment.
from: Social Securiity Statement
"In light of the current budget situation, we have suspended the Request a Social Security Statement service.
You may be able to estimate your retirement benefit using our online Retirement Estimator."
Perhaps you could fill out a form SSA 7004 and mail it in and see what happens.

Sometime these letters are useful, I discovered that some wages were not recoded properly in my SS record. One can play with the numbers in the statement, put it in downloaded SS benefit estimator and check how many more years of working will take you from .32 multiplier to .15 multiplier.

I believe they stopped after March 2011. I got mine since I have a June birthday, but DW did not for her July birthday.
Johnnie, maybe yours got lost in the mail and you got a late delivery in Dec
