Songs about money - got one?

Foghat singing about an affliction that way too many people have.
Great song though!

"Live Now, Pay Later"

I've got a '57 Cadillac with Batmobile wings,
Pink and black striped interior that's fit for a king,
No money down, fifty years to pay, be glad when it's mine,
"Saw you coming!", said the dealer as I signed on the line.

Live now - pay later, Live now - pay later.

I got a fifty room country mansion up in the hills,
My landlord says I can have it, long as I pay the bills.
I bought the furniture on credit at a fabulous store,
The man said, "Next time you come in, why don't you spend a little more?

Live now-pay later, Live now-pay later

How many possesions do I possess?
I started with nothin', now I've got less.
How long will my credit last this time?
Live now-pay later, that's how it's gotta be,
If money talks, well it sure ain't talkin' to me!

[Instrumental]

My doctor told me that I'm crazy to abuse myself this way,
Too much alcohol and jelly roll, someday I'm gonna pay.
No time for tomorrow, I'm too busy havin' fun,
But when the bills come in, I know it's time for me to run.

Live now-pay later, Live now-pay later.

There's a hole in my pocket where my cash used to be,
Rubber checks and credit cards have been so good to me.
How long can I spend my life on loan? oh yeah,
Live now-pay later, that's how it's gotta be,
If money talks, well it sure ain't talkin' to me!

Oooh oooh oooh wooo, oooh oooh oooh wooo....

Live now-pay later, Live now-pay later,
(Live now), Live now, (Pay later), Pay later,
(Live now), Live now, (Pay later), Pay later,
(Live now), Live now, (Pay later), Pay later,
(Live now), Live now, (Pay later), Live now,
(Live now), Whoa yeah, (Pay later)

[Erik - Solo]

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah-ee-ahh, ooooh whoa
I'm gonna bounce my checks all over the place now. Well, well, well.
I'm out of here!
I gotta run, they got me beat, whoa yeah
Time for me to run now! I gotta move on down the road.
Change my name, my address, my I.D.
I gotta run, I gotta run
Live now-pay later.
I have had my fun, yeah.
I've have had my fun.
Now it's time for me to pay.
Time for me to pay.
Yeah, I gotta run!

Madonna said it perfectly. "Only boys that save their pennies make my rainy day."

Oh, come on! 35 posts, and nobody came up with this on?

Another good Beatles song and appropriate for this time of year is 'Taxman' from the Revolver album. Probably recall the line "there's 1 for you 19 for me", at the time the Beatles were hit by the UK's 95% supertax (ouch).

If you like blues rock, try "Loan me a dime" by Boz Scaggs, with the late Duane Allman on slide guitar.

Take your time.........about 12 min. of blues bliss........

Awesome thread. Enjoyed it a lot.

My #1 go to $ song is Pink Floyd's Money. O'Jays second. Monty Python was great. Here is one that didn't get posted yet.

Damn right!

And so unusual with the 7/4 time that I don't think I've ever heard anywhere else.

There are a few others but they're not as well known. What I like about "Money" is that it switches between 7/4 and 4/4 so smoothly that most people don't even notice. The verse is in 7/4, the lead in 4/4.

Yes - it certainly does. Amazing transitions.
