Songs to Survive Divorce By

Earlier Sarah posted a Peter Tosh clip in the marijuana thread and I got to thinking how strongly I benefitted from one of his songs during my separation and divorce a few years back. As I remembered more, I realized that I had actually gone through a musical accompaniment to the different emotions I was feeling that kind of traced the stages of grieving. My Peter Tosh obsession was Steppin' Razor.

There were many songs over a pretty long period, but here are some of the biggies. I am sure at least someone reading now is hurting in his or her marriage. Likely my songs would only appeal to me, or someone similarly put together, but anyway here were mine.

Willie Nelson-You Were Always on My Mind

Gregory Isaacs-Night Nurse

Peter Tosh Steppin’ Razor

Jimmy Cliff-Many Rivers to Cross

Booker T. and the MGs-Green Onions

Louvin Brothers-Let Her Go, God Bless Her

Joey Ramone-What A Wonderful World

All of life's questions are answered by Country music.

Here are some Country Classic song titles...

"I Can't Fly My Kite No More Cause My Wife Won't Give Me Any Tail"

"I Hate Every Bone In Your Body Except Mine"

"If I Can't Be Number One In Your Life Then Number 2 On You"

"I'll Get Over You As Soon As You Get Out From Under Him"

"She Got The Gold Mine And I Got The Shaft"

"Thank God and Greyhound She's Gone"

"You Done Tore Out My Heart And Stomped That Sucker Flat"

"You're Ruining my Bad Reputation"

Already Gone - - the Eagles

Quote:
Well, I heard some people talkin' just the other day
And they said you were gonna put me on a shelf
But let me tell you I got some news for you
And you'll soon find out it's true
And then you'll have to eat your lunch all by yourself

'Cause I'm already gone
And I'm feelin' strong
I will sing this vict'ry song, woo, hoo, hoo, woo, hoo, hoo

The letter that you wrote me made me stop and wonder why
But I guess you felt like you had to set things right
Just remember this, my girl, when you look up in the sky
You can see the stars and still not see the light (that's right)

And I'm already gone
And I'm feelin' strong
I will sing this vict'ry song, woo, hoo,hoo,woo, hoo,hoo

Well I know it wasn't you who held me down
Heaven knows it wasn't you who set me free
So often times it happens that we live our lives in chains
And we never even know we have the key

But me, I'm already gone
And I'm feelin' strong
I will sing this vict'ry song
'Cause I'm already gone
Yes, I'm already gone
And I'm feelin' strong
I will sing this vict'ry song
'Cause I'm already gone
Yes, I'm already gone
Already gone

Many of my tears were shed to this one, but also the hope of a new day gave me courage
to go forward in the face of extreme loss. I am a survivor.

I've surely enjoyed a few of those songs, and fortunately not had a divorce to get through, but I think if I did, I'd want to hear Hays Carll's Bad Liver and Broken Heart.

I love those reggae songs, Ha.
