Speaking of calling....
Veremchuka's recent post got me going.
What is it with guys these days? In the past 6 months or so, on separate occasions, I've had three men hand me a slip of paper with their name and phone number on it. One was at a dance class, and two others were at seminars.
These guys know nothing more about me than what I look like (and in one case, how I dance). I don't know much about them, except now I have their name and phone number and assume that they hope/want me to call them.
Perhaps I'm old school, but I'd feel odd calling them (and haven't).
Thoughts?

My thoughts? They are figuring that if they hand out those slips of paper to enough pretty women, eventually they'll get lucky.
I wouldn't call someone I didn't know. Not a good policy.

I think that's a real compliment, Omni.
Go ahead and post their numbers here . We'll cure those guys of that habit.

Especially if we enlist the men to make the calls.

I think so too.
The last time it happened to me was back in the 70's...if memory serves me correctly....seems like I thought it was a compliment....

Thanks for the feedback. I was beginning to wonder if this was some sort of a new trend in how people meet.
Too funny....I hadn't thought of them being annuity salesmen or MLM guys.
I was taken aback/flattered..... BUT I'm still not calling them.
(It just left me with the feeling that they're sort of 'spineless', expecting me to call them when they were the ones who handed me their information.)

What I usually do is go up to a woman and say "hey baby, can I get your number?".
I usually get slapped - either by the woman or by my wife if she is standing nearby.

Egads...I'd be the last person to know how people meet (for dating purposes). I've been married almost 35 years...I don't remember what it's like being single.
....be that as it may.....
I wonder if guys do that now (instead of asking for your number) because they think you will feel safer knowing their information.

They know that they are interested in you, however, I am not sure you should call them.

OK...[playing devil's advocate here]... so I know A name and A number....
How do I know that it's THEIR name and THEIR phone number? (as cheap phones are truly throwaways these days...)
Giving me their info really doesn't make me feel any safer.

I believe most men consider it more polite to ask the woman to call him, rather than to ask her for her #. The world is strange, and it pays a woman especially to be circumspect. That said, I've gotten plenty phone numbers from women, especially at dances or dance classes. Once you have danced a few times with someone, you actually know quite a bit about them. You especially know whom you really do not want to get involved with under any cirstances.

I guess times have changed. When I was in the dating mode, girls/guys would meet in a parking lot, sit on the hood of a car while drinking beer.
Simple days I suppose.....

You could look up the phone numbers in a reverse directory and search the person's name if they gave you their last name on the paper. It's very likely the numbers are for cell phones and may not be in the reverse directories though. Have fun, you might find some info.

powerplay,
Found nothing in the reverse directory.
Hmmmm.....Zabasearch tells me that the guy who gave me his number today is 13 years younger than me! (Maybe I should call him and tell him he's young enough that I could've babysat for him. LOL)

They are being old school too. If they said, "text me" or here's my Facebook page, then they are hip and modern

The slip of paper the guy gave me today had his name, phone number, and "I'm on facebook" written on it.
Must mean he's hip.
