Cool, I have a strat in the same color and maple neck, plays like butter. This may go a bit against the grain here but if I see something that I want, I buy it. What is the use of having money if you can't enjoy it.

But will you devote the time and effort to practicing on it and playing it that you might have at age 18? :D If so, this was definitely a terrific idea and a great purchase. Hope you enjoy it a lot.

Congratulations! Do you know what year it is?

made this year in Corona, California..

ha! I'm still a beginner.. the muscle memory came back easily so I can play barre cords, 7ths etc very easily. I put the guitar down at about age 22 so it's been awhile.. as for now, I certainly have the time and inclination. Plus, we didn't have YouTube back then and there is some many ways to learn.

This guy at guitarlessons365 is a great example of tons of free resources out there. Anyway, it's just for fun and just for me. I did get a Vox headphone amp so my DW doesn't have to put up with my practice sessions

That's great, Tailgate!

I remember practicing folk guitar so much back in 1965, that my fingers bled (despite the nylon strings on that very cheap, crummy folk guitar). That's what inspired my comment. I just loved it and dreamed of making beautiful music, getting a better guitar some day, and being the best folk guitarist/singer ever. :D Obviously, THAT didn't even begin to happen and eventually I put the guitar aside and pursued other interests, but at that time I sure put a lot of teenaged energy into the effort.

Personally I just wouldn't have the motivation to practice guitar like that any more, even if I had a guitar right now.

Parenthetically, I'm glad I wasn't that good at it because from what I read, the lifestyle that most musicians lead can be pretty miserable especially when on the road. That's something I couldn't grasp when I was 15.

made this year in Corona,

My question may have seemed silly, since you said "new" in your post. But it may have been a vintage one that is "new" to you. For example, this year I bought an acoustic that I call my "new/old Martin". It was made in 1968.

Enjoy the axe!

Gorgeous and so much cheaper than the red convertible many of us have yearned for since age 18. Now get the band back together and take over the garage!

Gorgeous, and a very reasonable splurge! Best of luck with the new guitar! Rock on...

Search U-tube for how to play your favorite songs, scales, theory, etc. Lots of good information and instruction.

Nice! I always thought the Telecaster was the best of Fender. It was great for Country and R&R. I came close to getting a Butterscotch Telecast once but have too many guitars that I don't play anymore now. Maybe it's time to get them out.

Enjoy your new beauty.

Cheers!

That's sweet! Love the sunburst and the simplicity of the tele design.

It must be going around this week. I just splurged on a guitar I've wanted for awhile too:

I have a multi-effects pedal - RP 350 - that I use for a headphone amp, and for direct in when recording. Still have to crank up the tube amp occasionally...

In honor of the venerable Tele...

Roy Buchanan is scary! I've got 'Dancing on the Edge', great to see some video of his playing (though the camera too often isn't focused on the guitar).

So maybe the Strat has more pickups and switches, who need's 'em when you can play like that!

I know players prefer one or the other (sometimes depending on the song), some of the youtube videos give a good idea of the different tones from Strats and Teles.

awesome! I checked a couple of local pawn shops and all I saw were some low end stuff and a couple of Mexican Fender starts that were priced as high as new.

congrats..what a beauty.

Thanks, having fun with it so far.

Similar to you I played (bass) when I was younger. Fast forward 30 years, I started getting back into music about a year ago and have been buying far too many lower end basses and fixing them up to be great players. I’ve been wanting a guitar as well for awhile and Black Friday was the day!

I cannot overemphasize the value of a good setup with good strings on a guitar. I did a rough first setup on the Casino yesterday and the difference in playability was astounding. If you are a DIY type this video series by John Carruthers is very helpful:

Setting Up Your Guitar

I bought D’addario jazz flats for my guitar, they are excellent in tone and feel but might not be what you want for the Tele.

Enjoy!

I've bought a number of pawn shop specials, but I agree with your observation. I've seen Squiers and Epiphones priced near new retail... but the occasional deal comes along. That Strat cost me $500+tax.
