Staples Reward Card & My Phone Number

Yesterday I took some used-up inkjet cartridges into Staples to get a credit on my rewards card. When I gave my phone number (linked to my card), 80 people came up as linked to that number. This is surprising, since I'm the only person in the universe with that phone number. My name wasn't even listed for that number.

What do you think is going on?

Eighty people are shopping at Staples?

Last time I went in there, I was the only customer and I didn't buy anything.

Just a guess:

Maybe yours is the XXX 123 5678.

Often they just invent a number. Yours may be one that is invented often, or just copied.

I refuse to give my tel # at any store. Yet often I see the clerk type in a phone number.

Al, I had the same result when I gave my last employer your social security number. Who are these people?

Did you find this out before or after Lena made her appearance in the Christmas Video Card?

Oh sure, laugh. It's all fun and games until someone doesn't get his $3 empty inkjet cartridge credit.
