Still Have Snakes & Scorpions REW?

I hope those snakes at least got to catch a good buzz in the bottle before fading away. Beats being smashed in the head with a shovel or taking buckshot.

"...agents raided Bayou Bob’s Brazos River Rattlesnake Ranch in Palo Pinto County after the reptile-infused vodka was sold to undercover agents..."

Looks like Brazos Bob was attempting to cash in on Bob Dole's success with his Viagra commercial....

"Infusing alcohol with snakes or scorpions is believed to possess aphrodisiac properties."

Unfortunately, rattlesnakes are becoming another endangered species, and stunts like this don't help. Another 400 individuals taken out of the breeding pool. Like 'em or not, snakes are a necessary species like so many others, and pretty much harmless IF YOU LEAVE THEM ALONE.....

That may be true of some rattlesnake species, such as the eastern diamondback, but the western diamondback that you find out west (in my back yard, in my grandkids school playground, etc.) are doing just fine, thank you.

Give me a break. How do you "leave them alone" if you step on one walking down your driveway to get the morning paper, in your garage on your way to the car, or your dog gets bitten by one that crawled into her dog house?

The fewer the better as far as I am concerned.

So has anyone been bitten by a rattlesnake? What do you do if one bits you? I assume HFWR's advice (suck it out) is not what is done, or is it? What if you dog gets bit?

Bend over, placing your head firmy between your legs. Then kiss your ass goodbye...

SDNHM Herpetology FAQ About Rattlesnakes

Do not apply a tight, constricting tourniquet.
Do not cut the bite area.
Do not ice the bite area.
Do not attempt to suck out the venom with your mouth.
Do not give alcohol to the bitten person.
Do kill the snake if it is still a threat. One bite is better than 2.
Try to ID the snake and head for help, meaning anti -venom. A fire station may be a good choice if nothing else available.

I've been bitten by a copperhead. There was no sucking involved.

There was cussing - lots of it.
