Anyone use either of these? If so, opinions? Worth the $100 they each cost?

I have the Fitbit. It's a nice, easy way to track my daily physical activity. I bought it out of curiosity but I ended up finding it very useful. The companion website is also pretty nice and allows me to track a number of things like my calorie intake, my sleep, and other physical activities that may not have been captured by the Fitbit. What I like about it is the fact that the data from the Fitbit is uploaded automatically to the website every time I walk by the computer. It couldn't be easier. Plus I think it is a good motivation tool.

Don't know about it but there are plenty of reviews here: Amazon.com: Striiv Smart Pedometer Plus Motivation System: Sports & Outdoors
I notice they are marketing it along with "motivation".

I have this Timex pedometer for running/walking: Amazon.com: Timex T5E011 Pedometer: Timex: Sports & Outdoors
I even lost one and that would have pissed me off had I spent $100. It seems pretty accurate. I calibrated it at the track for running and can use it for walking with a simple correction factor.

LOVE LOVE LOVE my Striiv

Super easy to use, and I like the little challenges (walk 5 minutes and get bnonus points). Your points can get used for things like helping 3rd world countries get potable water.

What I really like though, is that I have become much more aware of my (in)activity, and now strive to get at least 10000 steps a day.

I do not sync with the PC, eveyrthing I need is in the unit. Lasts generally 4-5 days before having to be recharged.

I haven't used Striiv, but I like the Fitbit a lot. They now have a wifi scale that syncs to your Fitbit account as well.

Losing them or putting them in the wash is a problem, but I've heard that Fitbit might replace them if they are new. You can also dry them out in a bag with dry rice for a few weeks and they might revive themselves (according to Facebook Fitbit group at least).

I have not tried one of these. I do have a Weight Watchers pedometer which I used on vacation. I liked it, but there were a couple of issues. If I forgot and left it on while on a subway or while driving it would count that as steps. There was a button to push so it quit counting but it would sometimes not work and it would start counting while it shouldn't.

Also it wasn't supposed to count if you were just sitting in a chair and sometimes it would count movements as steps (this wasn't as big a problem as the other though).

I did find it motivating and was surprised at how many steps I took while on vacation and how few I took the rest of the time.

Both DW and I have the Fitbit. We are both on our second. I lost my first one that I had clipped to the pocket of a business shirt. It just slipped right off, I guess when I pulled my passport out of my pocket, and I didn't notice. I bought a second and I clip it on the collar of my t-shirt, under my business shirt now, and sync/charge it once daily.

DW's first one died after about 2 months. We got her a new one under warranty. It worked for about 3 weeks and now it seems to have died. We won't be getting another one. We both like them...when they work. But only 2-3 months of use means more than a dollar a day to count yours steps!!!

I've also got a Nike+ FuelBand. I would recommend that for the younger folks, but It is a little bigger and bulkier than I had anticipated, and I have a bit of an issue wearing it all day when I'm working (doesn't go well with a business suit...another reason to FIRE:confused:).

Well, I caved and bought a Striiv. Day three and it is definitely making me move more. It's fun.... hopefully it'll keep me motivated for the long run.

It very likely will. Study after study show that if you measure something, you will tend to improve performance on that metric. Just be sure to carry it, and it will help you.
