This sounds like BS to me. The smartest people I have known were generally Jews or Japanese, and neither were particularly tall.

Re: Study Says Taller People Generally Smarter - More Likely To ER?

So the DanTien personna is back?

I have heard before that tall people are smarter.
And are more successful, more likely to be elected president, earn more money, etc.

Short people ain't got no reason to live.

I find that I am better off when having a tough discussion with a client or a lawyer, to be behind my big desk, sitting on my chair that is higher than my guest chairs. I even pounded on my desk once, to get the attention of my "guests." As a short person, I needed to develop presence.

Re: Study Says Taller People Generally Smarter - More Likely To ER?

From my work experience of the last 25 years it is my conclusion that it's the ones who produce results that either "move up" or are allowed to excell in their "niche" areas of expertise for decades.

Like George Jefferson I'm also a "shorty" at 5'6" and not only have I "moved on up" I will also be "moving on out" much sooner than most others because not only have I produced enough results for the big Kahuna to keep me, I also had the vision to know what I wanted (er) and the discipline over a number of years to achieve it.

Can't imagine retiring to a high rise on the east side though!

Re: Study Says Taller People Generally Smarter - More Likely To ER?

I read that taller people may have received optimal nutrition in utero and as young children. Healthy well nourished children tend to be smarter than poorly nourished children. "Tall" is in relation to siblings/parents, so it is subjective--if your mom is 5' and your sisters are 5' tall, and you are a 5'4" woman, you probably received optimal nourishment and you may have an intellectual edge over your sibs. Sounds like the basis of many a family feud to me.

There are too many genetic variables relating to height to make it a reliable indicator of intelligence all by itself. Some nationalities are tall, some are short. The Dutch are the tallest people (the average height for Dutch men is 6'). I haven't heard that they are also the most intelligent.

I be that 3.1% at the very top. We were a meat and potatoes family. English side of the family is rather tall and Russian side is rather stout. I'm the results of the union.

Darn, if I only was 3 inches taller, I could have ER'd a few years sooner.

Re: Study Says Taller People Generally Smarter - More Likely To ER?

I would be somewhat suspicious of such a study performed on adults, less so if they studied "tall" children (like under 5 years old).

Being of "average" height (5'4") I am still highly aware of the attention and perks given to people taller than I. A counter lady at a big dep't. store once looked literally right over my shoulder to serve the (tall) person physically behind me! Who's to say that more praise and attention in school, in sports, and in the workplace doesn't itself lead to better performance, better confidence, better retention of ideas and information?

Re: Study Says Taller People Generally Smarter - More Likely To ER?

I would suspect that taller people are often *treated* differently than shorter people, and therefore may get certain advantages in jobs/education/social situations etc...quite figuratively, short people always "look up to" tall people...so I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't that taller people are born smarter, but that because they often recieve better/preferential treatment it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy in terms of success later in life....just my arm-chair analysis/theory anyway.

BTW: I'm 6'2"

I find myself humming this tune, inserting other groups like fat people,
or dumb people, etc. Good song. Works well with many venues.

I used to be 74" (6'2") but a recent measurement at the Doctor's office indicated that I'm now 73".

Evidently I am now shorter, as well as dumber. Well I knew about the dumber part, but who the hell stole an inch from me?

I hope that this is the only inch I will be losing, if you get my drift.........

Because everything starts to sag, you will probably gain an inch eventually.

Re: Study Says Taller People Generally Smarter - More Likely To ER?

Seems like men over 5'8" dominate the responses here, whereas the women respondents are mostly shorter than 5'8". I could be made to believe that taller people get noticed more and may get promoted if they are good. But, while that could contribute to the ability to ER sooner, it has nothing to do with being smart.

I am 6'2" and a member of Mensa since 1972. I would never attribute IQ test success with business success. Communciations and astuteness are much more important than problem-solving skills.

You know I've wondered how many Mensa members are on here
(or ERed in general). Topic for a new thread?
