Re: Talking about "it"

I'd be fine with posting all my details, if I were sure I was anonymous. But I think a bad guy could get past the anonymity, so I talk in generalities, and say things like "I don't keep any of my gold in the house."

Does anyone here use a different login ID to reveal personal information anonymously? (If you answer this, you may want to login under your "anonymous" ID).

Re: Talking about "it"

My wife reads the posts sometimes if I leave the computer on and sitting here, which happens a lot. She's mildly amused by some of the shenanigans. I got an email from someone I used to work with that happened upon the place and guessed correctly who I was, also found it somewhat amusing.

My spouse says that she couldn't care less what you guys discuss with me, as long as you relieve her of a portion of the spousal conversational burden.

And she never reads any of this stuff.

Right, honey?

The great thing here is you can open up and talk about your finances, your investments, your wife, your plans to retire from your job, etc. and no one knows who the hell you are unless you post pictures of yourself or your kids.

Hey, I'm not intelligent, cynical, or from Minnesota. Although I can say Minnesota just like Louie Anderson says it.

I have noted you to make intelligent comments occasionally. Maybe it was an accident.

Oh, I didn't mean too!

You claimed not to be intelligent, and I tried to contradict you without being confrontational.

Sheryl Honey, I was kidding. I like the back and forth. I should have put in the smiley to make it more clear.

Bye,

Re: Talking about "it"

Interesting. I left this topic alone for a few days to ferment and now it is a heady brew.

I guess I am ultra un-paranoid, because I don't care who reads my posts. Luckily the members of my family who are the most likely to sponge off of me are highly unlikely to be reading this forum. The porn content is too low to attract them.

If my details don't add up, it's because I'm math challanged, not mendacious.

It is really interesting and fun to read what people volunteer, and nice that some are willing to go "all the way" in revealing those juicy details. It helps me form an idea of what is possible and what isn't when it comes to my plans.

Re: Talking about "it"

I'd rather not have a friend or family member on here...kind of odd because sometimes I'd like to share some of the info with them.

I'm not too paranoid, but anyone paying attention knows what I'm worth (I used to be very vague about it but celebrated a milestone and spilled the beans), where I live, and if you've been paying attention for a long time you know what company I work for. You also know I use internet banking and Vanguard...possibly what car I drive, some of my personal tastes, etc.. Yes, I'm anonymous, but a surprising amount of genuine info can be gleaned, including my SS#. (Okay, maybe not that.)

I know computers quite well, and I feel relatively secure with my online banking and investing habits, although I'm tempted to disable net and phone access to my investments as I don't daytrade, but so far I haven't. (Um, I mean, yes I have, and I gambled all my money away and ruined my credit, quit my job, wrecked my car and moved to another planet. And I only know ugly diseased people.)

I don't mind sharing details anonymously, but if someone cared enough to dig I want to be sure they can't threaten my nest egg.

Hey, that's better than me. I only know ugly deceased people.

(On the plus side, they're good listeners...)
