One of our dancers was asked to go into the studio and "turn the record over". She had no clue what we were talking about.

After we showed her, she was absolutely fascinated that you could "play the big CD on BOTH sides!"

Two things on cars from my younger days:

(1) We had a 1979 Corolla which had a manual choke knob you had pull out to help start a cold engine. The original knob fell off but my dad put on another one so the driver could grab it and pull it out.

(2) Remember the separate shoulder belts on old cars? One on a 1972 Olds Delta 88 (the first car I drove) was folded up in a slot above the window and could be attached optionally to a hole in the metal clasp of the lap belt. There was, of course, no automatic tightening feature on the shoulder belt, just a manual adjustment to fit to the driver or passenger.

And I never saw a car back then which had an inside release for the trunk or gas tank. The "new" thing back then in the 1970s was a lock on the gas tank cap because crooks liked to siphon gas from parked cars during the gas crisis days.

I think the clutch is going to become one with the manual choke for the next generation of kids. I do remember my daughter asking why I had that extra pedal in my car.

Those round pieces of plastic that you put in a machine and they make music. My daughter finds them fascinating. They called them CD's when I was growing up. Some CDs were called "DVDs" and you could put them in a different kind of machine and they would make movies on TV. Not sure if they still sell either of them any more. If I recall correctly, you could put CDs and DVDs into computers and get data from them. I think you had to have a "floppy disk drive" to read these CDs and DVDs in a computer though - my knowledge of antique technology is a little hazy there.

Already has, but has anyone noticed that a lot of basic cars are base priced with manual transmissions still, with automatics a $1,000+ option? You probably won't find any non-sports car with a manual transmission on a lot anywhere, and they would probably hate to even order one.

About 10 years ago, DW made the mistake of asking a Lexus dealer if she could get their entry level sedan with a manual transmission, and the sales rep literally laughed at her. She was so mad she left...

I was talking to a 15 Y/O who collects old outboard engines last weekend. His dad has a 67 Chevy. The kid didn't know anything about timing lights and plug gap/valve gauges. Do they get used for anything these days?

Timing lights can be used for amusement. Sit at the end of your driveway in a lawn chair, drink beer and point it at passing cars. Feeler gauges can even out a short table leg with extreme precision.

35mm, 120 rolls, 4x5 sheet... and none of them with a USB socket or memory stick connector. DD didn't know what my Calumet view camera was. The other one at least had a familiar shape, and she could see through the viewfinder so it MUST be charged and on, right?

A friend of mine was recently visiting some other friends. He was running late, and asked one of his daughters to call "mom" and let her know they were running late.His daughter got to the the phone, an old on th wall Bell dialer, and did not know how to use it!

Clocks with hands....my grandkids can't tell time unless it is digital.

Engine distributor points and condenser; setting valves with shims, adjusting a carburetor..remember those things?

My experience was a little different than the OP's.

I decided way back not to have cable, because I did not watch tv enough, and football games and PBS came in fine without cable.

With the change.... I thought about getting cable. But the young person who was at my house doing other work looked at my tv. He moved my antenna to the attic, at a particular angle faced a certain way on "this wall is best", and then told me....

Your HD will be better than anything any cable place can produce or want to give you. (He explained why, but I didn't get it, even though he explained twice.)
