Telephone advertising spam GRRRRR !
Now I'm getting a lot of this crap on my cellphone too . The FTC or some other agency supposedly shutdown the " Rachael from Cardmember services " boiler room, now I'm getting " Jennifer from Home energy Options" and ' Donna from World Cruses "
Both " Jennifer" and "Donna" sure sound like "Rachael"
The caller ID numbers are always bogus. try to call back and get " The number you have dialed is not registered"

These kinds of call were getting to be so numerous and annoying to me that I dropped my landline and replaced it with Ooma recently. I didn't port over the old number because apparently it is on every telemarketer's list in the world. Since I made the switch, exactly zero spam calls. Zero. The peace and quiet is truly like heaven. Luckily, I have somehow escaped being plagued with spam calls on my cellphone, even though I've had it for over 10 years now.

You are mistaken that the govt "shut them down". They fined tham a huge amount, which they won't collect because the business is structured to not hold much in assets, and they just pop up again under another name.

In addition, the proposed order prohibits the A+ defendants from disclosing or benefiting from their customer lists, and prohibits them from collecting or trying to collect money from any consumer who bought their service.
Finally, it imposes a judgment of $9,238,155, which will be suspended after defendants transfer all of their assets (except $25,000), including a 2007 Mercedes Benz CL, a 1999 boat valued at approximately $17,000, and a 2002 boat worth about $45,000.

As far as I can tell, the Do Not Call list is just a 'jobs program' for the government, it accomplishes nothing more.

Standard POTS landlines are so heavily regulated in many areas they cost the providers more to maintain than they collect in fees. Hence the providers are happy to permit the telemarketers to abuse those lines in the hope customers will switch to mobile.

Oh, it accomplishes a lot , Telemarketers can purchase the "No Call List" from the government for a nominal fee . Very cheap source for tens of millions of sales leads , for the telemarketers who use it for the exact opposite of the intended purpose.
