I don't have a rain gauge, but according to a local news channel, I got 3-4" of rain last night, in about three hours...

~300 miles to your south, we got just under 2 inches overnight. This brings our total for May to more than 13 inches. We're at 25 inches for the year, more than 80% of our annual average of 30 inches.

It's a jungle out there - a very wet one.

Just got back from checking out our neighborhood ponds, sidewalks and a road that connects two phases of our development and is adjacent to a creek. Everything is totally flooded, water must have risen about 5-10 ft overnight. I wouldn't have thought this was possible. Maybe time to check out getting flood insurance, although I am pretty far away from that lower end of our development. Looks like more rain on the way for today and weekend.

Love Field recorded 4.7 inches of rain overnight...

Reading your post, I suddenly remembered we DO have the rain gauge out, and I had emptied it early yesterday. Just ran out to check it, it now has 4.1 inches in it from early this morning. Splish splash.

Skeeters have gotten bad!

your county probably has rain gauges all over the place so you can get a better reading closer to your house - I know harris county does

I spent today in Wimberley, as a cleanup volunteer. The Blanco river really tore through the area- its flood stage is at 13 ft- it had peaked at 43, flowing at a rate of 2.5 times the flow of Niagra Falls. It was very sad. Many homes and buildings along the river were stripped to the concrete slab, and water had been up to the roofline in the homes we worked on. We tore out all the sheetrock, flooring and insulation, leaving the frame, roof and exterior intact. Everything had a coat of slime and dirt. Many of the massive cypress trees along the river were gone, and the ones that were left had bark stripped. There is so much more cleanup and teardown needed, before any rebuilding can begin. I can't imagine how terrifying it must have been when the water came so quickly. The video here shows the bridge that the water crossed over. My thoughts are to those who lost their lives, and the many more who lost their home and everything inside.

I have a small wheelbarrow in the back yard. It was empty a few days ago. Today I looked at it before the afternoon downpour started. It has about a foot of rainwater in it (last couple of days worth):

For those of us in Texas, have no fear. That big bright thing in the almost cloudless blue sky today is just the sun. It's about 80 degrees (f) and humidity is about 50% where I am located.

I think this is our first two days without rain in weeks. Last Thursday, we got 3-4 inches in ONE hour, depending on where you live in our city. We got ping pong sized hail, too. It's been a dramatic May. I feel so bad for those who have lost their lives.

Does this mean that TX now doesn't want to secede?

lol! And, hopefully (besides realizing now how important our federal govt. is) the cons down there will rethink their crazy beliefs that man-made climate change isn't real.

Some of those ideas are all wet and also watered down. Dam them!

No, that's always on the front burner. One idea we are working on is selling water to California, but they have to pay us in cash.

We need to be careful, California might try to invade and take our water. But we have guns on our side.

Some folks probably think Texans are joking about it. Some are, but many are not.
