Text Messages Green or Blue

Can someone explain why my text messages I send are green?

So, I got a text a few minutes ago and I sent one back and it was Blue and said iMessage. I always don't pay attention to that stuff but what is with that?

Shows you which messages are sent via Apple's iMessage and which go through regular SMS.

Apple phones use that color coding system. If the text comes from another Iphone on their iMessage system its always colored blue. If it comes from an android device it will be green showing it's not an iMessage.

The blue Apple iMessages are transmitted via internet not phone lines, so they don’t count as a text on your phone bill (but everyone has unlimited texts now, so who cares). But also since via internet, iPods & iPads that don’t have a phone service can iMessage to other Apple devices, but cannot text to Android.

Okay, that helps. I have an Apple 7 iPhone so is there a way I can control having text sent so no data charge is recorded? How can sometimes Green then Blue?

Thanks

Easy. Only send texts to other Apple devices.

I do! My DW and I are on a TING plan and share <100 text messages. Anything above 100 costs extra. Most of our family and friends happen to be on iphones, so almost all texts go through iMessage. Only the occasional "stray" that comes in or goes out as SMS text.

If you turn Send as SMS off, you won't be able to send texts to non-Apple devices.
