The Ascent of Money

There was a program on PBS this evening that I found very interesting -- The Ascent of Money. It was the first of four weekly installments. This first one covered the development of money, the development of companies, the invention of the idea of shared ownership via shares and the development of stock markets.

I enjoyed this first show and I'm looking forward to the next three. You can catch the first one on if you missed it and are interested.

I saw it. I agree, it was interesting. Our PBS station actually aired something besides the "Best of Do-Wop"! It was by accident that I found the show listed in the PBS station's recently-redesigned totally hopeless website.

Thanks! I got about halfway through the book until I misplaced it last week (found it in the backseat of the truck today). Ferguson's book is good, but so far I'm thinking that Chancellor's book (which covers much of the same material) was better researched and more detailed. Devil Take The Hindmost: A History Of Financial Speculation: Edward Chancellor: Books

Still, they were different enough that both were worth reading.
