I've temporarily locked this thread and am attempting to split out the gun debate from what I perceive the original topic was. It was partly my fault we took this in this direction, too. Sorry.

Having lived in England for the first 29 years of my life, I have a similar opinion. Violent people are violent people, and having guns just makes them more effective (which I guess is why soldiers carry guns )

I don't own a gun. I was 12 the last time I shot one! But having seen and been shocked by the utter societal breakdown in NO I'm thinking of buying a shotgun. Just in case. I'd rather have one and never need it, than need one and not have it.
