I heard about this report on NPR today. There is nothing unexpected or all that new to people on the forum, but I thought it was interesting. The population is getting older. Pensions are disappearing. People aren't participating or saving enough in 401Ks. They will be working longer. It includes some interesting charts and graphs.

The 108 page report by MassINC and Boston College requires free registration to view. It does include a rather complete executive summary.

My folks are comfortable, but they would be much less
so without my Dad's pension. It is a very significant
part of their income. In spite of my many many job changes over 30 years, I don't believe I ever worked
anywhere that a traditional pension was provided.
Also, my Dad worked at the same company for 30 years.
My record was 8.
