The Meaning of USPS Tracking Info?
here is the USPS tracking data for an AMZN purchase on 7/26 , due for delivery
on 7/27. Most of it is from the USPS tracking site. One step 3 with ********I inserted from the AMZN tracking info. That step by itself seems ok but seems inconsistent w/ the rest of info. Newark is 22 mi from Santa Clara and delivery seems like it should have been made from there.
Instead it went to Lemoore which is about 200 mi away.
The other inconsistency is between steps 5/6. One minute it is in Lemoore
and 19 min later it is in Santa Clara (180 mi distant).......doesn't seem likely
even by plane if figuring in load/unload/driving.
Then the truth is that is that it still has not been delivered and the best guess is for July 30 so it seems like it is lost and the tracking data seems fake? Or am
I being too harsh?

Amazon's own tracking info is never consistent with the USPS. Ignore amazon. They reinterpret the USPS statuses, and apply different timestamps. Everything before USPS acceptance is meaningless no matter who the sender is anyway. Just means Amazon was shuffling it around in their warehouses.
Now, yours looks like it was a USPS handoff supposed to be delivered on a Sunday (but wasn't). Personally I find the sunday USPS amazon deliveries to be less reliable than the regular PO stuff. These are usually non-union USPS carriers working overtime for amazon, via the agreement with the USPS... So it's most likely you'll get it today.
It went to Lemoore because that's a hub. Everything goes to hubs first then out to the spokes (the local PO).

I agree with what Aerides said.
Thought I'd add that just because it is late, doesn't mean it is lost. Late deliveries happen sometimes, especially with the USPS (IMO).

I had an Amazon order similar to that a few months ago, although it was never out for delivery. A week or two went by after the guaranteed (Prime) delivery date and they sent me an email saying it must be lost and for me to apply for a refund. I got my money back, but a couple of weeks after that it showed up. I never did figure out what the real story was, and I'm not sure I should admit that I just kept the thing. It was worth less than $10 and I figured if I tried to follow up and pay for it, it would only result in a giant hassle and no good deed would go unpunished.

Thanks for the feedback. OK, ignore the AMZN info. I guess hub/spoke
idea makes sense but unable to confirm that Lemoore is a hub. I did have
a local USPS call back and provide info that package was at Lemoore and will arrive here eventually........and was never in Santa Clara. When I asked why
the Santa Clara history, he said it was automated system entries and not
human. I sent feedback to please write in humanese so it makes sense to
ignorant beings like myself.
Apparently USPS has its own tracking system w/ more detail so they aren't confused.

I have not found the USPS tracking very reliable as to where the package is or the delivery time frame. I had a check for $$$ show up 4 days late. It was in about 3 or 4 different postal substations before it got to the local. Then the carrier was off and the sub missed it so it sat another day
I much prefer and will pay lots more for reliable tracking & delivery at UPS/FedEx

Might be a tie w/ AMZN tho..............seems I have a choice of believing:
1) AMZN Website: says it was delivered this past Sunday as scheduled;
2) AMZN rep: says it is lost in space and would I like them to re-ship since it might take a while to figure out; or
3) USPS tracking: says it will be delivered by next Monday
guess I'll need a few grains of salt................
