I'll be driving to Florida in the next few weeks and will be checking out their most famous brand along the way.:)

Alabama - Saks? Really?

I was surprised too but, from Wikipedia:

Saks Incorporated, originally Proffitt's Inc. until 1998, is a Fortune 1000 operator of high-end department stores in the United States under the nameplate Saks Fifth Avenue. It was founded in Birmingham, Alabama.

Peavey's home office is located in my little town. Hartley Peavey built his first guitar amplifier in the basement of his parents house in 1965. Now he has manufacturing facilities throughout the world.

Local boy does good.

It's all in your definitions, I guess. Just as an example, Vermont may be known for Ben & Jerry's, but B&J is owned by Unilever, a Dutch company.

True. My vote would be for Green Mountain Coffee Roasters since they are independent and employ more than B&J and I suspect the brand is about as well known today given the proliferation of Keurig k-cups.

I am not so sure about Washington, Microsoft and Boeing both come to mind before Starbucks. And Dr. Pepper for Texas, didn't some big oil companies start there or even Dell Computers.

True but Unilever, like P&G, has many many brands, Ben and Jerry being one of the more prominent ones.

Hooters "is" tops in Florida they say? Well, I'll have to alter that a little and say Hooter's "are" tops in Florida. Interesting! I've never been in one. I'll have to ask my wife if it's OK to check out our states top brand. Won't tell her what it is.

I would have told her "Honey I had lunch at Florida's most famous brand today".
As someone who generally begs forgiveness rather than asks permission, I'm
beginning to see why I am not married :D.

Good point. I'll have to remember that it's better to beg forgiveness than
to ask permission. I'll tell her you said that. Thanks.

Must not be much going on in Wyoming. I've never heard of Taco John's

Hooters = slow service, limited menu, overpriced not so great food. I LOVE the place!!!!

Hmmm...I thought porn would be the most popular in CA...but I guess porn isn't a brand

Bank of America was founded in California and headquartered there for almost 100 years, until 15 years ago.

AOL? Are they even around anymore? That would be like saying Montgomery Ward for IL.

I would have thought maybe Northrop Grumman, or Freddie Mac. Or maybe the Pentagon or the CIA. For a secret organization they're pretty famous.

Hasbro... Rhode Island...
I went to high school in Pawtucket, with kids who were either members of the Hassenfeld family, HASenfeldBROthers... or children of the upper level of management... back in the early 1950's. (my first contact with people who were not "poor", like me.)

LLBean... in Maine. It was a mandatory stop on the way to my college. Back in those days, it was just warehouse, and you walked the aisles to find what you wanted.

Montgomery Ward... In Illinois? shudda cudda been... My last job was as special projects manager for closing down the catalog division.

Florida... Hooters? No Kidding! Intimidating to some of us "geezers". :)

Illinois should be McDonald's.

Could be so many in addition to CAT & McD. Sears, John Deere (Moline IL), Motorola, Walgreens, Archer-Daniels Midland, State Farm, Kraft Food (Cheez-Whiz!).

West Virginia - Gino's?

I haven't even seen one of those in decades. But I'll admit I wasn't looking either.

Rhode Island has that little company called CVS headquartered in Woonsocket.

I'd call McDonald's for Illinois in terms of brand recognition.

Too bad! It is my favorite fast food Mexican restaurant. I particularly like the Super Nacho's, taco burgers and potatoes ole'.

You're missing out!
