The Ultimate Post-Retirement Job?

For those who are worried that they may want/need to work after retirement due to not enough money or not enough to do to keep them busy, this may be an intriguing alternative to working as a greeter in Wal-Mart:

Japan's Booming Sex Niche: Elder Porn - TIME

It seems that elder porn is alive and flourishing in Japan! They show a 74 year old man who has been in 350 of these films during the last 14 years! And he plans to keep it up (no pun intended!) for the next six years. They say that women in their seventies are also appearing in these films, although they make only $2000 compared to young women in their twenties (late twenties used to be considered "mature actresses') who earn $100,000.

It's interesting to me that this man's wife and daughter supposedly have no idea that he makes these films. And also fascinating that this is occurring in Japan, which is "one of the most sexless societies in the industrialized world. A WHO report released in March found that 1 in 4 married couples in Japan had not made love in the previous year, while 38% of couples in their 50s no longer have sex at all. Those figures were attributed to the stresses of Japanese working life. Yet at the same time, the country has seen a surge in demand for pornography that has turned adult videos into a billion-dollar industry, with "elder porn" one of its fastest-growing genres."

So---are we going to have a rash of retirees going to Japan to seek fame and fortune in a film career?

If the US population is aging just like Japan, will American elder porn be far behind?

I remember the movies in the 70's...big hair, clogs and gold chains...and the same music during the course of the movies....whacka whacka whacka.

It made me laugh...but with Elder porn I think I would go blind.

But hey, if you've got it and someone wants to pay to see it...go for it!

I talked to the starter the last time I was out for a round of golf. Now that's a job I need to get into. Free golf, cart, range balls, 10% over cost at the pro shop. Oh yeah! The work part...... work hours are 2 to 3 days a week, no more than 4 hours a day, and there is no work in the winter months. Now I think I can handle that....for a while anyhow!! I just don't think anyone would really want to look at me on the big screen!

A friend up the street does that. He took a minimum-wage job in the pro shop two days a week for free golf and 15% off at the bar. He loves it.

Clearly we can see the market forces of supply and demand at work here. If this example can't teach those principles, maybe nothing can...

Ziggy, I never took Economics in college, so maybe that's why I can't follow your comment. So help me out (or anyone else who can explain.) Supposedly there IS a demand for elder porn----and if older people are less likely to pursue this line of work, wouldn't older porn stars be a fairly rare commodity and thus get paid more, while younger stars are a dime a dozen, so to speak?

Heh. You're reading a lot more into it than I intended! Forget age for a moment. There's a lot more demand for women than for male performers in this "profession," I think it's safe to say...and how many women are willing to do this when compared to men? The supply of willing men is likely MUCH higher, but the demand is for women. Hence the 50-to-1 difference in pay.
