I acutally wore a blue knee length lab coat when I did laboratory w*rk. The coat protected my clothes and made me look really cool, especially with the laser goggles added.

Interesting history. Thanks. I always thought the coats served to keep germs off the doctor's clothing, but I guess if you wear the same coat all day and treat 40 people it might harbor germs. Better to wear short sleeves when treating patients esp. for procedures with some sort of splash back potential and wash one's hands and arms in between.

I used to wear a knee length white coat when I worked in the lab as a chemist. I thought lab coats were white because you could easily sterilize them (you can boil whites)... I guess not. Anyways, I never really enjoyed wearing those coats even if they made me look "reputable", he he he...

My XDW was a nurse and really hated the required uniform (with hat ) at the time, but lately when I have been in a hospital atmosphere it is impossible to tell who does what. So, at least the white lab coats are a hint as to whether the guy is a doctor or a janitor.
