Things I'm tired of hearing - What are yours

This is the worst financial mess since the 1930's
Automakers who are crying now and still do not have a clue
Ceo's and their ridiculous salaries and bonuses acting like they are irreplaceable
Irresponsible borrowers being bailed out

Time to tune out I'm afraid. I just downloaded a bunch of new books on my Kindle and will be spending the remainder of [-]hibernation period [/-] Winter reading them. The news is as repetitive as it is dire but you know what, much of it will not change a darn thing.

This will play out the way it will play and take the time it takes. No matter how much of the drama you expose your self to. I also believe that each of us have more influence on our personal economies than the government. If you have a plan that you believe is sound work it, tweak it where necessary then enjoy your retirement.

I think of it this way. All of those commentator, reporters and bloggers who are breathlessly informing us of the latest disaster are just trying to hold on their jobs. Better them than me.

No, Spring is on the way. DH and I have made the final plans for our trip west in May and are now planing for next year's trip to London. The Philly Flower show is opening in early March and soon I will be back out in the garden and on the porch in the sky chair sipping something nice and reading a good book.

The phrase 'unprecedented times'. Wish I had a dollar for every time I have heard that over the last several months.:banghead:

I don't dare name mine...I'm on my last strike...But if I could, you'd really like them...Yup, really would:whistle:

I know exactly how you feel...;) Many of us are still finding our way in the new Soapbox-free FIRE, since current political events that affect our retirement, finances, and social fabric have been decreed off-limits. Hmmm... ER in a political vacuum? For an example of acceptable political commentary relevant to FIRE that won't get you called out on strikes, please refer to post #5. A "quickie" is apparently OK, but considered political commentary is no longer acceptable. Hope this helps. Good luck on that last strike....

Interviewers sticking a microphone at a "person on the street" to get a story about the economic mess, and it seems that every third one starts...

"Well, I'm a SINGLE MOTHER and...."

Excuse me, but whose fault is *that* (since she didn't say "widowed"...)? It's a little late to ask for my help now. I could have helped (ummm, with advice that is), but I doubt you wanted that. But now, it's fine and dandy to want something from me to help you deal with your choices.

She didn't say "divorced" or "abandoned" either, if that helps.

Coach

My town having to cut expenses (the horror! They've frozen the salaries of people who are paid more than $100K! They're going to eliminate the $30K end-of-summer concert that maybe 100 people turned out for! How will we survive:confused:?) after enjoying the biggest run in tax revenue ever for the past 20 years and spending every cent of it and more on crap.

TV News stories about how someone is MAKING A DIFFERENCE. I'm guessing the networks produce these in response to viewers asking "How come all you show are negative stories?"

So they'll have a story about how Suzy Wilson of Penobscot, Maine is collecting aluminum cans so she can buy baseball cards for people displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

Hero, applied to mundane accomplishments.

And people "giving back"--

Things I'm tired of hearing - What are yours

What are we having for supper? ^-^

If I didn't have to read the news to see when make some investments I would be really happy. But I do, and I'm really getting tired of hearing:

1. NPR stories about how the recession is affecting some small town coffee shop in the midwest (fewer customers and cutting back on the sausages). A somber profile and interview of the waitress, Mabel, and how all this is affecting her, ending with some want to be sage comment.

2. Billions

3. Nancy Pellocci

4. Harry Reid

5. The USA is going socialist

6. The greatest financial crisis since The Great Depression or our life times.

7. Health care

8. Global Warming

9. Negative News

10. Bloggers

11. Social Networking - Twitter, texting etc

12. Troubles in the Car industry from line worker to dealership

13. Mc Mansion

14. Negative equity

15. Upside Down - car value

That's enough for now - I'm sure there are others.

What are yours?

16. People complaining about what's on the news.:D

16. People complaining about what's on the news.:D
Complaining about complaining can be an infinite regression...

Some of us could quit compaining and just enjoy the irony.

Ha

What I'm NOT hearing is anyone saying "Well, we'll just make do with what we have and we'll be fine."

DW saw some woman on the news whining because her $800k house is now only "worth" $600k.

Peel me a grape.

Who ever knew there were about 30-40 million single moms out there?? All the single men in America must be in heaven.......

Sounds so idyllic, Cattusbabe. :smitten: Hope you pop in every once in a while to update us. I'll be taking Kindle breaks also a few hours a day when my new glasses prescription kicks in, looking forward to a free cookbook they're offering and flower shows are coming here in March also.:flowers:

"DW saw some woman on the news whining because her $800k house is now only "worth" $600k."

It's obvious she is not from Phoenix! We have one community where the average loss is 50%.

My guess is I am down by close to 35 to 40% now. But it's still ok by me. I still have a lot of equity from having put a chunk down and not pulling out play money over the last 10 years. When I bail I only need enough to get a new smaller home.

______ is so good it's to die for..

whenever i read or hear that I think maybe they should go ahead...

Ah, no. I have dated several single moms. It's more work than it appears at first. First there is always a baby sitter. Then you become the baby sitter.
