Fargo ND has had 50 days this winter when the temps were below zero and I believe 20 of those days, the high temp for the day was still below zero. The bad news is.....we still have a lot of winter left! I drove by. few small lakes today with the wind chills at -25 below zero and still counted almost 25 trucks and cars and Ice Fishing houses parked on the Ice. They are fishing for perch and walleyes. As long as the propane heaters hold up, it can be a very enjoyable experience. Some of the Ice Fishing Shelters are very fancy with beds, TVs, microwaves etc. If I had ten or fifteen grand to blow, I would love to purchase one of those " Ice Cassells" but not in the plan at this time. Six weeks into ER and loving it!

Yep, it happens all over the place, just (thankfully) not often.

I remember the winter of Jan/Feb 1973 in Colorado Springs, when we had 20 consecutive days when it never got above 0°F.

The last two winters here in Ohio were incredibly mild, with practically no snow at all. This year has given us one of the worst winters in memory.

It's all part of the natural variation. Not as big a deal as we like to think it is.

Walt, You made me laugh out loud. I vote for the bacon run too.

We started with snow around 6 tonight. Suppose to get between 1 to 3 inches.

I got out of there (Stanley, ND) last Thursday and came back to Texas. I love the summers in ND, but the winters are for the hardy people. Stay warm if you can!

I just went out for a little skiing here in southern Wisconsin. Four degrees, but brilliantly sunny. Really a pretty nice day, aside from the cold.

Woke up this morning with about 8 inches of snow, another 6 to 10 today. We have no intention of even trying to go anywhere. The snow contractor isn't even plowing, they're using a tractor they prepositioned yesterday.

Warmed up to 9 above in North Dakota yesterday so I went ice fishing! Loved it! The extreme cold weather has made the ice almost 30 inches thick so it takes a little effort to drill four holes. I took my grand son along and we had a great winter outdoor experience! At least the wind was not blowing the windchill index into the minus 20 degree area which has been the norm around here this winter since the first of December. I am looking forward to Spring in April!

Cold here in Phoenix. It was supposed to hit 85 today but only 73 now. And no precipitation since 12/20/13.

Getting used to cold weather. -5 in southwest Chicagoland right now, but with 6 days coming up to have highs between 35 and 50. Its going to be a little sloppy when this snow melts mixed with some rain

Will this winter never end? 1 - 2 more inches of snow forecast today. The salt on my truck is so thick I can't even see what color it is and there's no point in washing it.

We hit a high of 92 yesterday, but another front hit last night so today's high isn't expected to top the upper 70's. (You can point and laugh in August).

Another 3 inches last night on top of all the ice still there from the last one.

At times like this, I am so grateful that there's a lot of truth in the old line "Nothing runs like a Deere."

On the down side, there hasn't been any salt available to buy around here for a couple of weeks.
