To Simplify Posting

Not a a solution, but asking for suggestions.

Here's the need.

Typically, when posting, in addition to comments, the ability to insert a link, and a quote from that link... the most common two inclusions to the post.

This is what I'd like to do when referencing a website and a partial quote:

While I'm on a website article:
1. Copy the URL link (select copy/paste Two clicks)
2. Select and copy a quote. (select copy/paste - Two clicks)

Go to ER, and in one step, post both the link and the quote in one click.

A simple way to do this?

Windows clipboard only does one item at a time. Opensource to the rescue, take a look at clipboard manager Clipboard Manager | Free software downloads at

There are others of similar function.

This will still take multiple clicks - you need to go back to the list to get the older copies, but it does save you from going back-forth between the two pages to do one at a time. I can't live w/o it.

Also, the one I use on kids & DW's Apple/Mac:

ClipMenu: A clipboard manager for Mac OS X -

And on my Linux systems:

Sorry, I don't know of a simpler way.

But it's interesting how our expectations change. When I think of how easy it is to share information/ideas here today vs what it would have entailed 15, 30, 45 years ago - it would never occur to me to question opening two windows and copying a quote and a link with four clicks of a mouse. My Mom still cuts out newspaper articles and snail mails them to me occasionally...
