What is everyone here on FIRE doing for their DS, SO, FWB, or FM for Valentines Day?

I know a lot of people struggle trying to come up with something different every year, thought it might be fun to hear what others are doing.

(I am working on something special; will share it later...) ;)

We are foregoing a fancy night out and the expensive flower bouquets, chocolates, gifts, etc in favor of something simple and inexpensive at home. The cost savings will be donated to those in need in Haiti and elsewhere around the world.

DW doesn't know yet. She'll probably get pissed. :)

Forget the chocolates, they will just make your Honey worry about her weight. Take her a cheap bouquet, go out to a nice Happy Hour and pop a Viagra before you leave for home.

This will be a Valentine she won't easily forget. :)

Everyday is Valentine's day in the Purron household! 35 years married and still in love :smitten:

Seriously though, we gave up gift giving ages ago. We're both practical types and found trying to find gifts caused more stress than anything. Since Valentine's Day falls on a Sunday this year, chances are we'll be working over at the rental house. The one thing we usually do for special occassions is have an extra special meal with a nice bottle of wine. Plus some extra snugglin';)

I am looking forward to hearing what you do Westerskies. I suspect you are a true romantic at heart. BTW, I changed my avatar for the occassion.

We are very much the same as you. No gifts, usually just a special dinner with all that mushy stuff. :)

I love your new avatar!

I celebrate every holiday is some little way--even if it means I make heart-shaped hamburgers for dinner. Maybe some cookies this year with a Valentine's theme?
And I always buy a flower or two every holiday--even when it was just my son and I. Cheers the place up!

Yep - everyday is Valentine's day in our household too. We ignore the official Valentine's Day. We love to go out to eat, but Valentine's and New Year's Eve are the two nights we are sure to stay at home and avoid the crowds and high prices.

Pretty much just a good smooch and wish each other happy.....

I was never one for gifts - flowers, jewelry, whatever. DH figured out pretty quick that they weren't important to me. Neither was any special "dates". We just love doing things together and never need an official excuse to do anything special.

I leave for a week in Houston on Valentine's Day so I will likely ruin any romantic plans the long-time married couple I am visiting might have. I do have some hostess gifts for the wife(hey, I figure if she's happy, he's happy). She is from New Orleans originally(French extraction) and I know she collects fleur-de-lys. I have a f-d-l cookie cutter, wall plaque and notebook for her. If I can dig up any more items in this motif between now and then, she will be getting them.

I love it! Did the cats do that on their own or did you somehow manage to pose them?

Neither. My cats would never pose in a way I want them to. You know how cats are:cool:. This is just a cute pic I found on Photobucket.

Neither SO nor I are much into stuff, and on any busy holiday we avoid restaurants like the plague. Most likely we'll go out for lunch earlier in the day, before the mad dinner rush.

I'm thinking of baking something like a cake or brownie in a heart-shaped pan as a little surprise. Sometimes he brings home flowers for me, sometimes not. We're pretty low-key about it all.

We pretty much avoid restaurants on that day too crowded but SO brings me flowers and a mushy card and I say "Thank you ".

Ok folks I know the SO. But who are DS, FWB and FM? Do I need to go shopping again?

Does this mean that members are going to buy us chocolates, diamonds, and flowers, and take us out to dinner on the 14th? I'll be ready at 8:00. :D

(Frank will be joining us as a chaperone)

The only time we go out to dinner on Valentine's Day is when we forget it is Valentine's Day and then curse our failing memories.

It is my birthday on the 10th so we go out on the weekend closest to it and sometimes forget if that happens to be Valentine's day.

However, now that we are RE'ed we can always go out on my birthday night since we don't have to get up early next day for work

PS - to answer the question - we don't do or buy anything for each other on Valentines Day - never have and never will - don't like "Main Street" telling us when to be "lovey-dovey"

We're heading to our cabin, and our best friends are joining us. The guys will go ice fishing, and we'll do some cooking, gossiping and wine drinking--then the hour of us will have dinner. We too gave up the flowers etc years ago-the everyday little stuff is much better.

We call that day "Proposal Day" and celebrate it even more than the event that occurred nearly a week later on Feb 20 when we managed to finally get hitched. It was the first opportunity we had, sorry it took so long, please forgive our tardiness! Back then we still had that whole W__k thing getting in the way and had to wait for the weekend to pull it off, as we needed to travel to another State that appreciated the urgency of our desire to Wed (Nev). This year I'm giving DW an engagement ring to mate up with her long standing wedding ring. I hope she likes it. We don't normally do much in the way of gifts on this occasion, (OK I don't being a Dolt!) so this year is a bit on the special side...

Hmmmmm...I'd like to, but it's just so hard to choose a favorite mod.

My wife asked me the other day if we were still doing the $10 rule for gifts. I told her yes and then she told me that she wanted me to make crab cakes for her valentine’s dinner. I still have no idea what I’m getting her.
