I cut my income in half when I FIREd. I also no longer had to pay NYS income taxes or FICA or Medicare payroll deductions.
So I essentially got to keep a higher percentage of my "income".
I double and tripled checked the figures:
(salary + survivor pension - Fed taxes) vs.
(fixed annuity + survivor pension - Fed taxes).
Sounds screwy, but there it is. My downsizing paid off immensely. I'm still chuckling.
