Man this sucks. We need a smilie that is crying hysterically. Hobbes was 15 and had gone blind and deaf but he was still my baby. :(

Sorry. Always tough to lose one of the beloved family members. Try to reflect on the good times.

Sorry. It is difficult. Our 12 YO Golden died a few weeks ago. Our 14 YO is still going strong for now but we will be joining you again soon.

Sorry for the loss of a family member. Our 12 YO peke is starting to have health issues. As other suggested, remember fondly the best of days.

Sorry for the loss of your pup. My guy is nearing that time as he is now 15, deaf and a bit wobbly on occasion, but otherwise hanging in there.

My Border Collie was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma the day my late wife died of cancer.......he seemed to be doing so well, and I'd been in contact online with other dog owners in the same situation who made helpful suggestions.

About 8 months later he I and the cat were in the 5th wheel heading for AZ......we went for a walk..he jumped in the truck.....by the time we arrived he'd lost the use of his back legs.

Had a comprehensive test done at the vet's....they said it was all through him.....so we gave him the final shot.

I went back, sat in the truck, and cried like a baby.

That was around Thanksgiving 2002...........it's eased, but I haven't totally gotten over it yet.

Hang in, all the best, but it's not going to be an easy ride I'm afraid.

bclover, sorry for your loss. We lost our 13 year old Golden last year and know what a loss it really is. Your dog was fortunate to be in your home.

Very sorry for your loss. We’ve had to put down two (of four) dogs, both due to cancer, and it’s horrible. And each time we've lost a dog, it takes us longer to adopt another because it takes longer to get over them as we age. But all the good memories eventually far outweigh the bad, and you never forget those memories. Still makes us smile to remember each of them.

bclover,

so sorry to hear this. That is a good looking dog. Very sad.

We are not sure our dog's age as he was a rescue. We have had him 11 years so we think he is in the 12-15 range. People still think hes a puppy but he takes 5 pills 2 times a day. Hope he can keep fooling them a lot longer.

For those of you with an older pet, there are often services that will come to your home to put your pet to sleep. We have found that this is a much more peaceful transition.

Very sorry, it's not easy. Sometimes I swear we don't deserve dogs.

We prepared for our last dogs departure, by getting another while he was still around. It was his last year and I had to say goodbye. I thought I was OK till I left the building.

A couple of weeks later we saw a cute puppy. It's sitting on DW's lap right now. Now we have 2 older dogs. Yesterday was grooming day and it was a very lonely day.

They are our closest friends, tightly intertwined in our life. Had to give my cat a extra special squeeze this morning, as this thread reminds me they are here for a short time. Tearing up just thinking about it.

I have had many dogs and loved them all thoroughly. We currently have a 7 year Papillion who, when he is gone, will leave a solar system size hole in our lives.

I have always cremated my pets and have all their ashes in separate pouches marked with their names. For whatever reason, this comforts me. Allows me to still feel close to them.

I agree 100% with MRG....sometimes I believe we don't deserve
dogs. They are so much better creatures than we could ever be.

I am so sorry for the loss of your friend.

Hurts like hell. So sorry for your loss [emoji26]

So sorry for the loss of your fur baby. They bring such joy to our lives and pain when we need to let them travel the Rainbow Bridge.
I believe you will see him again some day.
Hugs to you.

Part of life is death, and all pets will one day be gone.

I had to put away a Rottweiler in November. He had prostate cancer and was in pain.

But we have a three year old female rottie asleep at my feet right now. She is 100% house dog and a sweetheart.

So sorry for your loss, bclover. Dog's lives are just too damn short for all the joy they give us.
We're soon facing the same. We have a 15 1/2 year old (also deaf) that was just diagnosed with anal gland cancer. Had the surgery done to remove it, but we learned yesterday it had already spread, after an ultrasound... They're giving her 6 months. That was a tough one to hear :-[ Friends say she's had a good long life, and she has, but having her for over fifteen years, well, it's like losing a teenager. No chemo, no more surgery, we're going to make her comfortable until it's time.

Very sorry for your loss, bclover. Our 13 1/2 year old Jack Russell terrier has an inoperable thyroid carcinoma that is starting to constrict her trachea. The vet tells me that radiation is the only treatment that has a slight chance of slowing the progress of the disease but unfortunately there are no facilities in our area that offer it. The vet also mentioned that because of the tumor being intertwined with the trachea the chances of the radiation burning the trachea are very high and risky. The vet also said that unfortunately chemo has a very low chance of being helpful for this type of cancer. So we are making her as comfortable as we can.

So sorry for your loss of a great friend, companion and family member. It's one of those things that a lot of people do not understand until it happens to them. We lost our dog of 15 years a few years ago and I was very surprised at how hard it hit me. Like most things, you'll get through this. Thankfully the memories will last.
