Congratulations on the new baby ! My daughter was born on St.Patrick's Day so her name should have been Patty or Megan but I named her Gretchen. Go Figure !

I knew a girl named Bombala. Nice cadence.
We just saw a kid play the piano. Long hair. Loose fitting clothes. I asked my wife "that's a guy, right?" She said, "definitely a girl, you idiot."
"OK, let's check the name in the program." "Jesse."
Still no idea who was right.

There was a really cool baby name website that showed the popularity of each name over the past 100 years... I can't find it now, maybe someone already posted... but that was a fun way to browse for "not too popular" names.

I wanted to go with Colleen, Eileen, or Kathleen. DW vetoed.
We agreed on Candice, which she shortens to Candi.
Or you could go retro. Was reading an article about communes and co-housing trends. Lady's name was Moondancer Sunshadow Sweetpea.

We had picked girls names when each of our dds was born, but dh and I never did come up with a boys name.
Good names:
Chloe
Gracie
Elise
Hannah
Megan
Erin
Adrianne
Keep in mind how it flows with your last name. Have to second (wab's?) the point of unisex names - is Jesse a girl or a boy - just asking for trouble.

If you or your wife identify with an ethnic group you could consider an Anglicised version from that heritage. My daughter has a Norse first name that has a lot of spelling variations. When I really wanted to get her attention I used the Norwegian pronunciation.

You and DW might enjoy reading the chapter in Freakonomics that deals with the fashions in, and effects of, baby names. Here's a lilnk to an article in Slate about it.
I am a baby doctor and over the years I have felt sorry for many of my patients who were saddled by names that were worse than their diseases. My only piece of advice is to stay away from anything that can be made into a taunt by schoolyard bullies.

I think if you name her Candy, Bambi or Amber, it's a better than even chance that she ends up a stripper.
My own choice is Edna. I guess it's a good thing we never had children.
