Weird places you frequent, and why

Where: Waffle House
Why?: the waitresses call me "Baby," as in "whatcha gonna have today, Baby."I like it when they call me Baby

Where: local bookstore, most Saturday mornings
Why?: There's a decrepit guy who looks 90 playing chess and beating the pants off a bunch of 30-somethings. Sometimes it gives me the urge to do the "wave" but since I'm the only bystander I usually refrain.

Where: Home Depot when I have nothing to buy
Why?: Because I usually buy something

Where: my usual dog-walking route, including a park nearby, even though my dog is now gone.
Why?: It makes me feel good most of the time. Also, a pair of bald eagles started frequenting the park a week after she died. Cool.

Where: Not sure if it qualifies as weird, but I've been spending a lot of time lately in my front 'yard'

Why?: I find myself saying (forgive me Rich) "Oh, Baby!"...

Re: Weird places you frequent, and why

I obsessed for years about finding the "perfect" house and location. I still obsess, but there are few places I'd rather be on a daily basis. The dogs are running around the yard. A couple of eagles are flying above checking out the fish. A group of seals are barking. The city skyline and a large volcano are in the background.

Not weird enough? You should see what I'm wearing.

Nice front yard!!! It had me saying "Oh, Baby!" too!!! That's what I'm working at getting my yard (front, back, and side) to look like! I spend almost ALL my free time in the yard/gardens!!!

Also...

Where: a local family-owned restaurant about 5 blocks from my house.

Why?: Because they like to harass the h*ll out of us regulars....and they enjoy the harassment in return.

It's comparable to the old TV show "Cheers"....where everybody knows your name...

A Beaver Pond now full of snakes in the high grass near the pond.

I think I will leave the beaver dam alone now and get my bass pond filled to about 4 feet deep.

I hate snakes.

Looks like the beaver had a meeting with the snakes so I would stop tearing down the dam.

My head. Sometimes the trip is weird but most of the time it's downright scary.

We drive through the miles of devastation here in New Orleans. As heartbreaking as that is, we need to remember why we have decided to move away when we retire.

Keep in mind that those flowers are very short-lived. Once they are gone (within a few weeks), what's left are scorpions and rattle snakes.

Where: The local plasma donation center

Why: They pay me
There are some interesting characters to watch and hang out with
I think my plasma is helping someone
I can pretend I'm losing weight (at least until I get a drink of water later!)
They have free wireless internet (!)

Re: Weird places you frequent, and why

I have a favorite Mexican restaurant I like to frequent on Saturday at lunch. Grab the paper, sit in the bar, usually a game on the TV (relaxing background noise) and have my usual chicken tostada, no sour cream. And iced tea. They bring it to me without asking. Why? It's just comfortable.

Hey wahoo, don't post pics of those beautiful wildflowers. You're gonna get be obsessing over doing a relo to central TX.

Wouldn't you rather have a yard full of grass to mow than flowers to look at?

Of course.

When I began cultivating them I didn't realize I'd have to sacrifice for a couple of months each Spring while the darn things bloom and the seeds mature. It's difficult to resist getting my mower out there with the rattlesnakes and scorpions, but so far I've managed to find a way. Sometimes my willpower amazes even me.

Looks just like my former yard in Smithville, TX. I love to see the Bluebonnets & Indian Paintbrushes blooming.

Re: Weird places you frequent, and why

Once a week I take a trip through town and stop at the Salvation Army store, the consigment shop across the street and the antique shop next door. They all know me, chat a little with me and sometimes even save things they know I might be looking for
